I've been using PaintShop and ACDSee for many years. I followed the former up to version 8 and the latter up to 6 or 7 before being repelled by the bloat and reverting to good old 2.41 which pretty much does everything I need. But there is no doubt both are kinda dated and even though I only use 'em casually are tempted by newer free alternatives, particularly Paint.NET and Gimpshop on one hand and FastStone and Picasa on the other. I'm always wary of file associations and icons being messed with as I prefer them default with browsing and editing by context menu. I am also not interested in any database features as touted by Picasa or anything else in the way of network sharing crap. Sooo, any opinions on these from similar minded users?

The Gimp is my favorite for resizing, touching up, converting from one format to another, and basically any image related task I might have. I am no professional by any means but for home stuff and some web related work, Gimp works wonders.
