For your chipset goto

http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2
Download the hyperon for your O/S

For your Video Drivers try the latest Official then try the beta. If you want you can try the others to see if you see a differance in images and performance.

The Omega, Firecat and XtremeG are altered by 3rd party to add optimizations.

UUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUGH tried all those different drivers, with uninstalls in between different ones....it all looks the same....dark as shit, i can't even see pictures, they look like black rectangles on my computer...I can jack up the britness with the nvidia program, but that distorts everything so it looks like garbage...any other suggestions?

I don't have any other monitor....this one worked fine with my old comp so I dunno if it could be that....yah i tried those ones you gave me, they actually make diablo 2 freeze up when i try playing online, so i uninstalled, then reinstalled nvidia's....not like i can play anyway, my screen is too dark, and the color's awful

the best way i can explain it: IT looks the same with or without any drivers installed at all...the only bonus with the drivers installed is that i can adjust the gama and briteness and all that, so that it's not as dark, ithe colors just look rancid..............there's 400 well spent dollars...piece of junk

Sounds like you got a bad card. I have been running my EVGA for quite awhile now, and it gives a Crystal clear image. May need to RMA that 1... tho I would make sure I had the Monitor .inf installed first.

how many amps do you have on your PSU's 12v rail? If it's really low, i think that could cause a problem...

Right click on your destop; click on settings; rasie that slider to the res you want and the bar on the right set to 32bit, apply and your done.

RMA time.
No, not yet. Get a screenshot of it, or even better, a screenshot and a photograph of the monitor in action. What you're describing isn't very consistent with a video card problem.

but yeah make sure your running 32bit with your desired resolution and if need be your monitor might need drivers.

I honestly think its a bad card, that's what it sounds like to me atleast.. but like others have asked, a screenshot would help a lot. maybe a few of your desktop and some of in game.

download the 67.66's from here: http://www.nzone.com/object/nzone_downloads_winxp_2k_67.66.html For future reference, you can get there by going to nvidia.com -> download drivers -> BETA DRIVERS ... The 67.66's are all-around great drivers. A good place to get help with this would be nvnews.net's FORCEWARE forum ( http://www.nvnews.net/vbulletin/forumdisplay.php?f=26 ). To properly get these working, go to "ADD/Remove Programs" and uninstall the old nvidia drivers you're currently using. Reboot. It may or may not detect your video card and ask for you to provide a driver--dont do any of that, click cancel if needbe. Next, run the 67.66 installer. Let it do its thing, reboot. Then give a game a shot and see.

You have a VIA chipset, so no nforce drivers needed. You should probably install the VIA 4n1's though. Download the latest 'hyperion' here: http://www.viaarena.com/default.aspx?PageID=2

one other thing before i snag some screen shots, if the monitor's a 6 year old gateway could that be the problem? the things just too old maybe?

edit: I guess I should search for drivers for it..but I'm not sure where I'd look...other than the setup cd that came with the gateway when i bought it

Do you have an old VC that you can try using. I can't see it being a monitor issue.
I'd RMA the VC.

I think you've ruled out software/drivers.

On the hardware side, you might want to try wiggling the monitor's cable. You can miss colors and/or get a bad display if the cable's bad.

Before you go through the trouble of returning the card, make sure it's seated properly and making good contact with your mobo.

If the hardware looks good, send the darn thing back for a refund or replacement.

Great card or not, Diablo 2 isn't suddenly going to look 40x better just because you installed this new card. A much older card could probably max out that game. It has it's limits. Try a newer game & see how it reacts.

yeah, other than the fact that you can pump up the resolution and aa/af, which will give a better appearance, the card will not make the game look drastically better. Of course, if it looks worse than it did on your old card, then that's another story.

yah, it looks horrid compared to my old 16 meg video card i used on my old gateway...I didn't expect a huge improvement, but I wanted it to not look like a festering sore....unfortunately it looks rotten now...colors distorted and such...I"m going to make sure the card is seated, test the cable, and then try and find drivers for my monitor (gateway ev700 if anyone knows where I might find some, otherwise i'll just look on the system cd). It's not just the game either, my desktop looks bad, and i can't even see pictures, like if there's a dark background on a picture, and it's a picture of a black guy, you can't even see him, he blends into the darkness in the photo...
