i currently posess a Geforce 4 FX 5600 with AGP 8X, is it worth upgrading at this time or am i better to wait until next year and get a new computer using the Athlon 64? i use the computer mainly for games, the internet, watching movies, anime etc and some essays.
 
Depends on the games you play and if you want high-res and visual quality. It also depends on the CPU you currently have. A slow CPU is not going to be a good match for a 6800GT or an X800Pro.
 
There is no such card as a Geforce 4 FX 5600. But my guess is that you have a Geforce FX 5600 😛. It's a fairly slow card but it depends on CPU and how much you're willing to spend on a new card.

LOL...the problem with that statement is that it is ALWAYS true 😛 If you based your upgrade decisions on that logic you'd be waiting forever.

Codename, only you can determine whether it is time to upgrade. If your current card cannot handle the games/resolutions you want, then come up with a budget and buy the fastest card you can. There's no point in upgrading for games that haven't even come out yet, as Doom3 and HL2 made painfully obvious for some suckers.
 
We need to know exactly what you are going to be doing with this card. Are you going to be gaming or websurfing etc...?

Depends, it's not everyday a new interface like PCIe comes along (think how long AGP's been around). Sure there may be future PCIe revisions which will likely become backwards compatible with today's PCIe to an extent but PCIe for certain is not backwards compatible with AGP.

What do you mean 'doom3 and hl2 made obvious for some suckers'? Do you mean I can run my HL2 just as fine with my fx5900 128mb as I would if I had a 6800GT
