Graphics card or monitor?

Its my birthday this week (yay) and the wife wants to buy me something for my computer. I was going to buy a new monitor (one of them korean IPS's) but recently decided against it.

The problem is, im left with only a 1920x1080 upgrade from a 1680x1050 (Samsung T220). The only way I can make this worthwhile is to buy a IPS monitor, and the only affordable one I can find is this.

I could upgrade my 460 to a 7870, but the 460 is good enough for most games at this resolution.

Should I upgrade the card? Or should I put the money in a pot and wait for a affordable 2560x IPS 27"? The problem I have then is not having the card to run it (and not having the cash to upgrading it).

Im so confused 🙁
 
If you are even remotely bothered by t220 blacks, dithering, angles, screen gamma distribution - IPS will be a huge upgrade.


But how come so cheap...

I'm a poor guy.

I upgraded from a no-brand OEM monitor that came with the last desktop. Before that I was on a 19" viewsonic LCD. I know no different.

I cant find any information on it, only a few user reviews on obscure user-review websites (all 4/5 star). Someone mentioned bad ghosting on a youtube comment but thats literally it.

If you find anything else, please let me know!
 
You want a LCD that has a 2ms response time if you're a serious gamer. 5ms is to slow.

1680x1050 is 1,764,000 pixels and and 1920x1080 is only %17.75 bigger. You have a GTX 460 so just grab another one for some SLI madness and you'll be fine for quite awhile. Just use some 4xAA.
 
Hey, you can always get the big monitor first, and just run all the games at 1080p and the monitor will display it full-screen.

I think the impact of the big monitor is way better than getting a new video card. You use the merits of the monitor every single time you use the computer. The new video card would be indistinguishable during ordinary every day web browsing, and then you could use it during a game on your dinky old monitor and sort of enjoy it.

It is 23 inch and 1080i Ips 179 Euro is about 233USD...

You can geta 27 Inch 2560x1440 IPS panel for 290ish.. so that thing is not cheap kinda over priced

The Korean monitors right? Maybe next year when I have the money to risk it, but right now its not a good idea.

Could fork out the money and get this, but its not ips, just bigger and 16:10.

If the T220 is actually bad, maybe ill be happy with a bigger, better TN?

Damn Korean monitors ruined everything with their cheapness 🙁

You won't discern a difference between 5ms and 2ms... I believe I recall reading that you cannot discern anything "ghosting" or lag issues from 8ms and below.

I have a 2560x1440 IPS Cat Leap i paid 260$ for..

I also have a 1920x1080i 120hz 27inch 3D panel which costs 600$ that i paid 300$ for.


Anywho on the Korean Monitors i do not see any risk?

Buy from a good seller Greensum Bigcloth etc.. they will replace it if something happens.. and 95 times out of 100 they will not and you will be happy and showing off your monitor to everybody.
 
I heard the business model on those Korean oem's is to shift them quickly at a small tiny margin, so taking risks in manufacturing is acceptable. Because of the strong demand they started using inferior parts to meet it, and the few Korean monitors that are dieing in the last month are directly from parts of the PCB being blown from a capacitor.
