i have an old desktop system
with
- intel celeron 500mhz cpu
- pine technologies (tls 622-23) motherboard
the motherboard details are -
- sis 620/5595 chipset based
- 3 x 256 mb pc 133 sdram
- 3 PCI and 2 ISA slots
- onboard 64 bit 3D AGP
- max 8 MB frame buffer memory shared from system memory
450 w smps

the system is working well, but it slows down or hangs when graphics intesive websites are visited. i also cannot run photoshop / coreldraw. so i am thinking of external grpahics card option.

now today in 2010 if i want to disable onboard AGP and add a PCI external graphics card, is it possible to do so with this old configuration from year 1999?

if yes, thanks for suggestions about the names of compatible graphics card available today in INDIA.

he is wanting to run some fairly modern apps and I don't see how that is possible with a 500MHz Celeron.

Those graphics intensive websites and applications are running so badly because the CPU, RAM, and possibly the hard disk subsystem are choking on it. Graphics card wouldn't help you with any of those things.

dude a nettop with an atom processor will be an order of magnitude faster than what you're running now even, and for the equiv of another 50-100 bucks you could have a low end athlon 2 system with current integrated graphics, which would be another order of magnitude faster for what you are doing with it. you need to seriously consider buying yourself the best modern system you can afford, it doesnt matter what you buy honestly its going to friggin blow the top of your skull off in terms of performance gains
