hi,

im looking at getting a new graphics card but cant decide which to get and im looking for advice. im running an evga 780i, Q9450 2.66 and right now im using my old geforce 6800. i have a few options in mind but im hoping to get an opinion from someone more experienced.

Im looking at either 2 9600 or 8800, a 9800GX2, or a 9800GTX+. is there a clear cut best or are they all comparable? would it be better to run SLI or would a single card give me better results using crysis to test?

any information would be greatly appreciated, tks in advance

Stuff like a budget would be nice. I'd probably go with a HD4870 if I were you though ...

Because you stopped and considered that he has an SLI board.

Which would you recommend out of the choices he gave you?

OP, a bit more info for us. What size monitor will you have/do you have. As Marc said, what is your budget?

BTW, the 9800GX2 adores Crysis.

im about to upgrade to a 22" or 24" monitor so the resolution will go up. ill be gaming prob around 1920*1200

im not really concerned with a budget, ive found all the cards listed for under 200$ except the GX2 which is 325$

The fact that he has a sli board is irrelevant. Do two 9600gt's outperform a single HD4870 or GTX260. Oh, the gtx260 would be a decent choice too, if it's slightly cheaper then the HD4870. I keep forgetting the price on the GTX260 in the US is better then in Holland. That way you could SLI 2 gtx260's down the road. BTW, the 9800gx2 is actually $285, but I'm not exactly sure how it stacks up to a single HD4870 or GTX260, although it will probably outperform both in some cases.

I wouldn't bother sli-ing 2 9600gt's or 8800gt's. Nor would I sli two 9800gtx+'s, not if a 9800gx2 costs $285.

What PSU do you have? The high-end ones (GX2 and GTX260) that can handle Crysis are real power-guzzlers.

PSU is not a problem, i upgraded it when i upgraded some of my other hardware, it will be able to handle whichever card i choose.

oops, sorry. missed your above post.

That's 325 CA correct? I see NCIX has the Hd4870 for 313.00, and the GTX260 for 333.00.
Both cards are comparable in performance. The 9800GX2 would be faster than both of these cards, especially in Crysis. Since you will most likely be playing at 1920x1200, you have maybe 4 options.

HD4870 (comparable in price/performance with the GTX260)
GTX260 (comparable in price/performance with the HD4870)
9800GX2 (a bit more pricey over the above two, but performs better)
GTX280 (more expensive)
HD4870X2 (even more expensive)
