Thanks alot,

So is the X800GTO the best card in that price range.

Yep. You can think of it as a 6600GT just with double the bit at a price of 10 more dollars.

hold on, what about the geforce 6800 512mb, that should be the fastest. as not only it is from the 6800 series, it also has 512mb of VRAM. Please do some research over this. I believe 6800 512mb should be the fstest, but I will back this claim by doing soe research and showing some benchmarks.

will b back soon

Simply not true. That card will not perform nearly as well as it LOOKS like it would perform. Basically that card is meant for n00bs who would be like "look it has 512mb! must be twice as good as that 7900gt I saw with 256mb!" and that way they can take all your money on crappy cards

Even worse so, that link you posted is for the 6800 ultra 512mb edition (omg 512mb!) and it costs way more then its worth(and way more then the kind of cards we are talking about in this thread). And in most cases the extra ram on that gpu doesnt even help and may even slow down the card.

santz, please get to know the video card market a little more before posting advice

OP- get the x800gto. That 6800 card is total crap. It has 128bit memory.... that card is a scam. And since the x800gto is slightly more expensive and alot faster then the 6600gt, I would go with the x800gto.

the ati one and here's why: not many game are designed to run with 512MB of ram so the advantage isn't nearly as noticable as you would think. however, both the nVidia cards have a 128bit connection which is half that of the X800GTO which has a 256 bit connection. this will affect performance more then the amount of VRAM cause the total bandwidth is higher. that's why the X800GTO is a better buy. and santz, you should learn to read. it says in the link YOU gave us that the 512MB isn't anybetter then the 256MB versions only more expensive.

Its a gimped version. Normal 6800s are 256bit but ddr1.

yeah what was ASUS thinking, give it 512mb ram, but limit it to 128bit...way to handicap a good card.

Not this one. The AGP X800GTO by GeCube seems to have 700mhz ram speeds. But it'll be the fastest card here for sure. 6800 is crippled with 540mhz ram 128-bit ram too.

Go with Sapphire ATI Radeon X800 GTO 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-122-SP)

or the ATI version of same card. They have 980mhz memory and will be about as fast as X850 Pro once you overclock the core to 500+ mhz.

If you care about SM3.0 get OcUK GeForce 6800 GS 256MB GDDR3 TV-Out/DVI (AGP) - Retail (GX-035-OK)
