Graphical options differences in AMD GPUs?

I am patiently waiting for the new video cards to be released. There are some graphical options in games that are available only in Nvidia as far as I know?
I just want to know if I buy amd card will I be limited not to use some graphical options in games. Otherwise I know that they are faster with async in dx 12 but I also care about the quality of the graphics a lot.
 
There are graphical options exclusive to Nvidia because of their driver extensions (NVAPI) like VXAO (Rise of the Tomb Raider), HFTS (The Division), TXAA (various) and as previously mentioned PhysX ...

Do note in the future there could be AMD exclusive options like HRAA you see in Far Cry games on consoles such as PS4 and X1 through AMD's own driver extensions (AGS) ...

On a side note there are also Intel exclusive graphics options like AOIT and AVSM in some Grid games by Codemasters through as usual the their driver extensions ...

I use intel i5 2400 so I guess I wont be limited from this side at least.

Yes you will be limited with some options however these are like 1 option per Nvidia sponsored game and it's not a regular thing.

That said the real question is if you could even afford to turn it on. The feature is an Nvidia exclusive but what Nvidia doesnt tell you is how taxing the feature is to actually use. It ends up being that the vast majority of users leave these features off.

If you care about these features you'll need to spend a minimum of $400 to enable them and even then it may be too taxing of a feature to enable while keeping the game playable.
 
What is pixel sync and do games use it ?

A hardware feature that can be used to stall the execution of a pixel shader for the purpose of accessing UAVs in the order of which geometry is submitted ...

Grid 2 and Grid Autosport uses PixelSync in order to enable adaptive order independent transparency and adaptive volumetric shadow mapping ...

Just because GPUOpen can be accessed by any developers does not mean it will not feature proprietary technology like their AGS driver extensions ...

I wish AMD would expose DS_Ordered_Count so we could see advances in translucent/transparency or volumetric rendering as outlined Graham Wihlidal's presentation with speaker notes below on page 42 of the slide even if it would mean vendor locking some of these graphical features to AMD ...

tress fx evolved into purehair that is open sourced also ags? did you even read what ags is for amd? how do you compare this to gameworks? its apples vs tomatoes

Yes I do know what AGS is but do you ?

90% of the ags is to profile amd cards(and the 10% is to expose dx features into amd cards) nothing to do with graphical extensions but you already knew that..unless ofc nvidia will start making crossfire profiles for their cards too

It's not just for profiling AMD GPUs anymore, AMD clearly wants to make console and PC development closer so I'd say the purpose of AGS is more closer to exposing AMD specific DirectX extensions ...

Despite AGS driver extensions being open source can you run the code on Nvidia GPUs ? No to say the least! 😉

BTW AMD does encourage usage of AGS in games so there are even AMD specific paths too in games!

I would not openly encourage supporting horrendous business practices of proprietary graphics tech that splits the gaming community on purpose to sell hardware and throwing marketing $$$ at developers to cripple the competition with proprietary DLLs, but in your case, your CPU is simply too slow to consider any modern high end AMD GPU.

As such, you basically have to go NV for 1080p due to DX11 driver overhead on slower CPUs with AMD. Having said that, even for NV, anything above GTX980 will be bottlenecked by a stock i5 2400. Some games like GTA V, Fallout 4, Crysis 3, Etc. will be bottlenecked by an i5, period. As I already told you, you will need to start looking on a game by game basis and consider using DSR, higher AA modes to shift the load to the GPU. Generally speaking, most games are GPU limited but it also makes little sense to pair a $600+ modern 14nm card with a 5.5 year old stock bottom end i5.

Here is more testing at 1080p between and overclocked i5 and 6700K. In some games, the i5 gets murdered, esp. In minimum frame rates.

If you have a 1440p monitor or plan to use DSR/VSR, or won't play some of those games, it's foing to shift the burden to the GPU. Otherwise, yes, your CPU will bottleneck even a 980/970 OC.

ms themself said they gonna update x box one api to dx12 not me
 
TressFX was disabled in Lichdom for nvidia gpu but it was done by the developer after nvidia users were complaining about it's performance/stability.
