Graphical corruption = Dying GPU?

Just wanted to make sure i am being right here, by asking you guys.

Its pretty much happening on any game and every video i watch. There are dots of purple, red, blue, green all the different colours. These come up mostly when there are black parts on the screen like shadows and what not.

Suffice to say, i don't get to watch much of it as when my GPU gets to a certain temp (i haven't figured what temp) it locks up, as i can tell because well everything stops and that corresponds to the GPU getting too hot, and the fact that the dots/graphical corruption gets worse and worse and worse and then stops.

Could this be due to maybe drivers (i doubt it myself), fan not working properly or is it what i believe it to be, a b0rked GPU.

Its a Club3D 7800GTX 256MB, bought on the August of last month, so its around 1 year and 2-3 months old. Do you think they would replace it? Or am i gonna have to by another GFX Card?

temps could be the cause, what are your idle temps? download Rivatuner, so you can monitor your load temps to see exactly how hot your card is getting. did this just started happening recently?

some things you could do...run with the side panel of your case removed and see if the problem still persists, check your heatsink, make sure it's clean, dust free, and still making proper contact with the GPU.

Well the NV Control Panel says its idling around 60 degrees. Im dl RivaTuner at the mo to see if it gives me any different readings.

Ive got temperature monitors inside my case and next to my CPU, and the Temp is around the 25 to 30 degrees, so pretty good for air temp, and circulation is good with 1x120mm fan at the back 1x90mm fan on the side and 1x120mm at the front.

Heatsink is good and seated properly.

My 6800GT died a similar fate alittle over a year ago at the same age, to make sure I didnt happen with my 7800GTXs I kept a system fan nearby to make sure ambient stayed under 40c and idle was always under 50c(out of paranoia). Most cards are quite safe running warm indefinetly, but sometimes you get bad apples and to be truthful I would have had my 6800GT rma'd if I had more time and knowlege then.

Well i have checked it, the computer locks up after the GPU is running at around 84 degrees for a few minutes, now if im thinking right that means its not a fan problem but more of a GPU b0rked problem?

Unless its driver problems, im using the Twear R Us 92.91 drivers (i think thats the right numbers)

60c idle and 84c load is pretty HOT for a 7800GTX...go into Rivatuner and check your fan settings, you will be able to control your fan speeds for standard 2D; lower power 3D; performance 3D...try setting all three to 100% and see if that helps to lower those temps.

OK will see how that works

Edit: Tried it, and well the game crashed before it got to the 84 degree mark, but it was at 75 and steadily increasing. It was Dark Messiah, its very buggy right now.

I tried it with a demo of ANNO 1701 and that stayed roughly at around 76-77 degrees. IT definitly helped as it never froze the computer.

But thats like 7 or 8 degrees drop for a 60% increase in the fan speed, which is pretty poo. What do you think might be the problem then?

to me it definetly sounds like a overheating issue that is causing your problems. there are a few things that you could do.

1. invest in a aftermarket cooler, i would suggest a Arctic cooling NV5 rev.3 , but at the cost of voiding the warranty.
2. remove the heatsink, and reapply the thermal paste (AS5 would be good), which also might void the warranty.

4. RMA, i'm not 100% sure but i think Club3D has a 2yr limited warranty.
