I'm debating between the 256 MB and the 128 MB version of the ATI 9800 XT card. I need to cut cost on my system somewhere and I was wondering if maybe the extra cost for the better card may not be worth it for the performance gain. This system will be used for gaming, so any imput would be appreciated.

Thanks.

Radeon 9800 XTs only come with 256MB. If you're looking for affordable high-end performance I'd recommend a GeForce FX 5900 128MB 2.2ns non-ultra. The Radeon 9700 Pro and 9800 non-pro are also good alternatives if you can find them for the right price.

I guess you're right, it's in my new egg wish list, I could swear it said XT but I guess I was wrong. :)

Right now I have the 128 MB 9800 Pro selected.

I could get the 256 MB XT and buy the DVD burner later, or I could get the 128 MB 9800 Pro + a Plextor DVD burner.

I guess that's the point of my post...I don't know. Hopefully someone can fill me in.

The answer is NO, go with the 128 mb version. As was previously posted, go with a Radeon 9800np if you can find one [ do some shopping of course ]. Most of these can be clocked up somewhat toward the pro level. Mine has the infineon ram and it is able to get close to a pro. No game has stopped me yet, due to my vid card. ronach
