Graphic card doesn't sit well on the motherboard HELP!

Hi, this is my first post so im a newbie 🙂

I have a coolermaster centurion 5 case a MSI NEO motherboard and a 6800GT graphic card, and the problem is that (i think) the graphic card doesn't sit well on the AGP slot
i think there is a bad connectivity between the GC and the MB, because of that after im starting the computer there are starting to appear strange pixels on the screen and my computer gets stuck :/ ... i wonder if anyone encounterd this problem
PLZ HELP ME!!!!
if u have any advice i'd like to hear it...

(after im pulling the GC out and putting it back again the problem dissapears for a while but keep returning)

There's a small clip at the back end of the slot that locks down when the card is placed in the slot.
Did you make sure to move the locking mechanism out of the way before you inserted the card?
 
yep, i even tried to remove the clip out of the motherboard 🙂
i think that the case wont let the GC get in to the AGP slot all the way
 
Did you screw your mobo down to the case before inserting to graphic card? I heard some people have a problem that (without inserting the graphic card first) their graphic card doesn't align perfectly with the slot at the back of the case.

It's better to, insert the card on the mobo, make sure it sits nicely, and then put the whole thing in your case, make sure it aligns with the rear slot, then screw down the mobo. (You may need to screw only the corner, take away the card, then screw those bolts located just under the card, and put it in again).
 
thanks ill try it, but im not really sure that the problem is there, did u had strange pixels appearing on the screen and after that the computer stucks?
 
Do you have another VC you can try or another computer you can put the 6800 in? It could be a bad AGP slot on the MB or a bad VC.
 
yeah i thought about it ill try it tomorrow when i get back from the uni.

but do u think its the VC or the MB? (can it be a cpu or the memory? im just guessing...)
 
Hi, You got some good answers on how to fix the case interference problem. I've seen it many times. You may not have to remove the MB. Loosen all the MB screws with the card in and see if the board shifts position a little. Tighten the screws and see if it helped. I have seen extreme cases where I had to slightly enlarge the mounting holes. Be very careful if you have to do that. Jim
 
Looks like a bad GPU to me, because if the video card wasn't inserted properly the system wouldn't boot (I've seen this happening), and lining the video card with the case has nothing to do with artifacts. Also if the RAM or CPU were damaged the system wouldn't boot too. So I advice you to try the video card an another computer and see if it works. Then install another video card on this mobo and see if it works.
By the way, what Neo do you have? There are many MSI Neo mobos.

Don't ever try to remove the clip! You won't be able to fit any video card if you do that. Just unlock it, and it will lock automatically after inserting the video card and applying enough pressure.

btw i got msi neo fsr
and by saing its a problem with the GPU do u mean that my VC is ****ed up:thumbsdown:? or the AGP slot on the mobo:thumbsup:?
sorry for the **** 😛 im just very sad because i thought its a problem with the mobo :/
