Granite bay mobos??? Were the F*** are they???

I still see the same 3 overpriced asus mobos on pricewatch....

But how about this...

GA-8INXP E7205 MCH Chipset,
SERIAL ATA / 133 RAID SUPPORT
/ Hyper Threading & Gigabit
LAN No CPU

and for a whopping 338.00...This sh*t is not worth it....I wonder if I am going to need to go to AMD again...

With the FSB overclocks on the better NForce2's, AMD is a very good price😛erformance imo.

Unless you are a complete speed junkie and want to indulge in the fastest cpu or fastest overclocked cpu then AMD is the way to go atm

~marketing~

they still have a lot of old boards they need to sell before releasing GBay to the public.

if they flooded the market with them now theyd only be hurting themselves.

the pe and ge boards havent been out long enough to pay for their tooling and R&D work yet.

im dying for one myself

At that price, why not stick with... oh wait. I was about to say RDRAM, but it isn't very flexible when it comes to overclocking. Well, let me ask this, is there any other reason why a GB board *should* be a ton more expensive? It's not like it is a dualie or has a 64-bit PCI bus in addition to the 32-bit PCI bus, two things which would've added a lot of complexity. Maybe the second memory bus is enough to force manufacturers to add layers to the PCB or something?

Marketing-wise, I can't see what they're aiming for. The enthusiast/overclocker isn't going to pay double for GB over PE, and the workstation crowd is still going to get the best performance from an RDRAM setup for the most part. Let them sit on their $338 boards for a while 😛

I think this is targeted fore server boards and the springdale is more for the prescott and desktops....I agree what is really the advancement that justifies these prices??? I think this is a handful of vendors who have their heads up their f'ing arses and trying to screw the customers...I will avoid those companies....

you could always get 32bit RIMM4200 rdram Duvie...

only $175 for the board and $250 for 512mb of ram ~ it might even run for ya too.
wait a minute, thats a ripoff too 😉

A server board would have at least one 64-bit PCI bus for SCSI RAID and gigabit ethernet. Workstation board maybe? But a gigabit ethernet card alone is almost enough to max out a 32-bit PCI bus. Look on the bright side, you made a smart choice with your present board rather than waiting for GB. 😀

I know how you feel, Duvie. The Granite Bay release was probably delayed because there was apparently some truth to this articleLink. I heard that Intel has since revised the chipset, fixing the problem. My guess is that the mobo manufacturers are having to retrofit the boards, that they had ready to go, with the revised chipsets from Intel. The board manufacturers are doing a pretty good job to get them out in January.

There is a GB review over at LostCircuits which mentions that changing a trace length on the motherboard will fix one of the problems associated with AGP 3.0.

I dont feel GB is a worthwhile upgrade for me,I am waiting for Springdale to come out then I will upgrade.

I need to upgrade this 8500LE 250/200 to a 9500pro before I even consider a new mobo.

Besides my P4B533 With 2.26 at 2.8ghz is plenty fast for me now.🙂

Intel's overpriced scamming strikes again.

I agree, I wouldn't pay this, and I think if I needed a new power machine right now I'd go NForce2 and a high end AthlonXP
the high end P4's and their boards are absolutely disgustingly overpriced.... blah.

(ended up going NForce2)

LoL, yes evil Intel told that vender to rip people off.

Even if it was priced at around the $170 to 180 it should be, either nForce2/2600+ or faster or with the Gigabyte/2.8 would be a great choice. The 3.06 is still priced too high for me to consider.

IIRC, Intel used to be king of paper launches. Does their 1ghz chip bring back any memories? 😉

I dunno about anyone trying to scam anyone.. I think it's just a simple matter of supply and demand. No manufactures have yet produced (or been able to produce) large quanitities of the board (perhaps fixing errors, or waiting for their other boards to sell out more before releasing these granite bay boards on a massive scale). This means the few boards that they have released are more expensive because there are only a handful to be sold, and there's bound to be a few people who ARE willing to pay that much. People who want it bad enough or who are plain rich enough will buy it now, while the majority of consumer (95% or more) will wait because it IS over-priced. Just wait a few weeks and prices will drop dramatically. The cost has nothing to do with manufacturing or material cost, just supply and demand.

you mean the 1.13GHz P3 not the 1Ghz, and they wernt the king of paper launches, i recall the 2400/2600/2700+ all paper launches in a row

so dont get me started. I am sorry to say the granite bay is taking longer then Intel has expected prob because of the agp problem, but intel said they have fixed it and are going to give mobo makers the chance for the revision to take place before mass producing them. Just wait guys, 167fsb (667Mhz) on the GB is soooooo sweet man .... drool .....

lol don't take any offense man, i was just joshing with em. It's rediculous the amount of paper launches AMD has had lately. I was actually going to upgrade to a P4 2.4B C1 chip + Gigabyte GB board, but I had to make up my mind for Christmas, so I went Nforce2 + 2400+. But do you think people should go for GB? Or maybe wait for Springdale whcih they say should only be a few months away, seeing as it should be a better economic choice for the majority of people?

Granite Bay will be out of date as soon as it comes through the channel. Springdale should be the only choice for the P4 owners out there. SATA, 400/800 Mhz bus and WiFi are reason enuff.

Sorry, but your wait for the next level in P4 mobo's just got longer.

Meanwhile in the AMD camp, all hail nForce2.
