Granger Motors tried to cheat me!

I'd like to apologize to Granger Motors for any loss of revenue this thread may have caused. I had another dealership look at the car and they said the car needs a lot work done, too. I was upset and rushed to my conclusion. It was wrong to accuse you of being dishonest. I won't hesitate to take the vehicle there again in the future.

I was on vacation when my customer took their computer to Staples because it was running slow.
Staples said they needed a new computer.

They brought it to me for a second opinion and it was immediatley apparent a memory stick had come lose dropping them to 1Gb. instead of 5 Gb. Push stick in. Computer that is an i5 second gen at 3.3 Ghz runs great.

Who installs memory modules in sizes like that?

Some laptops have 1gb on board memory with an expansion slot. So 1gb internal + 4gb stick =5gb!!!

Big names like Dell, which happen to sell a lot to big corporations.

Default config = 1GB. Upgrades available to 2GB, 3GB or 5GB. Grunt at Dell factory has to install one memory module 10,000 times instead of swapping out two modules 10,000 times and dealing with inventory of mismatched 1GB modules.

I can support this story - had a similar event, but did not cost money at a garage. I had replaced all tires, including dynamic balancing and wheel alignment, about 6-8 months prior to this, and the car was running very smoothly up to about 130 Km/h (80 mph). Much of my driving is slower -around town. In late spring, went on a short highway drive and noticed immediately a significant vibration in the front end, so I pulled into a restaurant parking lot to check for loose wheel nuts or something. Instead I found one wheel with a lump of frozen snow / ice about the size of a baseball stuck on it. I took the windshield scraper brush I carried and knocked it off the wheel, then started down the road. No problem - vibration gone!

A friend of my uncle saved something like a cool $450,000 a unit (missile deployment system) and he got a plaque. Wooo.

And good on Tim for trying 🙂

😛WIll make this right but need some more info like ticket number if not company name.

Tim

Are you using social mention or some other search API to alert you when your company is mentioned online? Mind if I ask which one?

Assuming you are with the dealer and not just another member on here messing around, that's an impressive response time.

Give me a call tomorrow sometime. Check your private messages for my phone number.

edit: Probably a jokester looking for a laugh. You had me going for a minute!😛

Although, the research on the GM's name checks out. This page is also on page 3 of googling Granger Motors. Yikes! That might not be good for business.

If this is real, what's a reasonable settlement in exchange for removing my complaint/review? Would a late-model car cover it?

I left work late last night, and I needed something at Costco. I got there 20 minutes before closing, and tried to get in and out quickly.

I picked up a couple slices of pizza as I was leaving. They were out of pepperoni.

I've got 16GB in my desktop.

A guy who takes his computer to Staples for repair shouldn't be named "techs".

I took my company's fleet car to Granger Motors (Granger, Ia) last weekend for routine stuff...oil change, window washer valve and a flat repair. They did the work fine, but they gave me a curious estimate for additional repairs. I declined the additional repairs because the price was astronomical: Left front strut that leaks $403, outer tie-rod ends $216, lower ball joint/control arms $827, alignment afterwards $79.95: $1525.95.

I thought it was odd that I needed an alignment already since I had taken it to Moffit's Ford (Boone, Ia) about 1 1/2 months ago for new tires and an alignment.😕
Sure enough, I noticed the steering wheel shook after I got it out of Granger Motors. So all this week I was pissed at Moffit's because they didn't catch all the work that supposedly needed done.

Yesterday, I dropped the car off at Moffit's after-hours and left them a nice little note about how I expected the alignment to last more than a month and a half and how they'd better not think of double-charging the fleet service company. Today, I called to see if the car was done and the service guy told me they were done with it and it was out for a test drive.

Can you guess what the problem was? I drive off-road sometimes and the wheels got clogged with mud, throwing off the wheel balance, causing the steering wheel to shake. Now, I don't know what Granger Motors' inspection consists of, whether they looked at anything underneath or just took it for a spin and decided it needed a bunch of parts. I do know I'll never take any cars there again. I'm also telling my supervisor to advise all his employees to steer clear of Granger Motors.

I should get a bonus for saving the company so much money!

P.S.
Moffit's didn't charge me for washing the mud off the wheels.

Were you in the movie My Cousin Vinny?

Eh, I dunno that I'd give two shits about their supposed settlement. That just goes to show the lengths they are willing to go to to fuck someone over. Had you been some with very minimal car knowledge, I have little doubt they'd have gladly taken your $1500 to replace a bunch of stuff that didn't need replacing.

This is not to say that all such places are the same, but when I find a bad one, I never magically succumb to their efforts to make me happy. I have little doubt that they get by with whatever it is they are doing several times a day with a number of customers.

I had a car in for a diagnostic at one dealer that had a quoted diagnostic rate of $99. I figured that, based on some of the gear heads knowledge here, that they had a special tool that would pinpoint the problem I was getting. Instead, they call me later that morning and tell me that my current service charge is sitting at $200, and the cost to replace the part in question would make that $350. Problem was, I had already replaced that part in a matter of 10 minutes with a brand new part that cost $30. I begrudgingly okay the service so that I can get the onus on them for the next check engine light, and sure enough got it 3 miles down the road from the dealership. My call back was far less than enthusiastic, and I was able to get a bit more than a $100 refunded due to the "error" on the paperwork that took a diagnostic charge from $99 to $200 without so much as an okay from me about the additional charge. They ended up confirming what my original mechanic had guessed, and I took it back to my original mechanic for the repairs. Long story short, many dealer mechanics are trying to squeeze dimes out of your pocket to line theirs. You have to be careful with their quotes, as, if you don't say anything, you're going to pay for something you shouldn't have to.
