Grandpa needs an lcd

I'm stuck between the E173FP for about $224 shipped & the 1704FPV for $276. He has bad eyes & read alot of newsapers online, but doesn't have room for a crt. Is there really that much of a difference going to dvi & twice the contrast? Any other recommendions for under $300? Thanks a bunch.
 
teh E173FP should be fine since he's not a gamer. on the other hand my eyes are stressed after using a planar 15" for about an hour... are you sure LCD's are the only option?

He has a tiny desk stuck in the corner of his bedroom. We can't put the desk anywhere else in the house. Currently he has an old & bulky hp 15in crt with that horrible under monitor power switch.
 
make sure it has a low resolution or he will complain about text being too small. for old people, 800x600 is the max, seriously.
