Grandfather passed away

After a 3 year battle with cancer he passed away yesterday morning.

Funny how you can see it coming from so far away but that doesn't prepare you for when it actually happens.

Miss you grandpa.

Yeah, it sucks...even when you know it's coming.

My grandfather died in 1981 at the age of 86. Served in WWI, and was a retired postman. That old man could walk...and he did, nearly every day of his life.

My condolences. Remember the good times with him.

My grandpa died very sudden. He would walk to Burger King and eat a Whopper every day of his life. Was pretty healthy until he fell and broke his hip. Never woke up from surgery.

🙁 sorry for your loss. at least he doesn't have to deal with cancer treatments ever again.

At least his suffering is over. My grandfather had alzheimers in his final years, he did not recognize my mom, me, or even his own wife (my grandmother). There are somethings that are worse then death.

What really bites is missing them during the holidays, and the regret - I wish I would have gone to see my grandparents more often, because now I can't.

The pain will pass (somewhat), and life will move on.

Sorry for your loss.

Mine, like zero's, had a massive heart attack in '76. Retired at 65 and didn't see 66. My fishing buddy. Good times.

I know EXACTLY what you mean man. I'm sorry about for terrible loss. My grandpa was my hero and role model. He passed away Jan 26 2009. Worst day of my life.

Cherish his memory!

My grandfather died in August. Still makes me sad to think about. And my grandmother's Alzheimer's has been getting worse recently. So far she still remembers and recognizes family members, but that's about it. It's childish maybe but I wish they could just stay the same as they were when I was a kid, you know?

Y'know I never used to post in these threads -- maybe once or twice here and there. I didn't think that anything I could say would make much difference. Then my grandfather died back in January and a bunch of people chimed in on my thread with their condolences and support, and I realized it actually does make a difference.

So I'm very sorry for your loss. As I indicated above, I went thru this very recently myself. You have my sincere condolences.

Thanks for the condolences guys, we had the calling hours today.

I was talking to my mom about how he went and it was truly a blessing... he passed in the early morning but he was still able to have his children at his side at the time. My mom also told me he had come to terms with his death a while ago, but he was fighting to stick around for my grandma.

Still a sad time, but I know he lived a full and loving life. I can only hope to live to be a person as good as he.
