Hi all. I hate to start another Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas (PC Ver) thread but I need to know if anyone is having the same issues I am having:

1. Sometimes when I start the game I see no video but hear it then the games locks. CTRL-ALT-DEL fixes after I stop the game, running again plays fine.
2. Weird sound problem after i'm already playing the game: Example. I could be walking around doing nothing. If I save the game or if I go into any options or any menu settings upon resuming the game I get a weird buzzing sound, same sound as if I was on a bike in the game and ging real fast on it. If I get into a car and drive away real fast the buzz/bike sound gets lower then goes away.
3. I have a Logitech Rumble Pad II, this gamepad has all the same buttons that the PS2 gamepad has. Both analog controllers are also buttons, the same 4 button layout and same Directional controller. The Directional controller acts the same as the left analog controller and in the options the Directional controller cannot be assigned to do any function, the game just doesnt see or acknowledge it's existence.

I could live with problems 1 and 2 but not 3! I dont want to use the fraking KB or my track ball! In the PC ports of GTA3 and Vice City the controls were the same as the PS2. But GTASA it's not! Anyone having these particular issues? I've been playing the PS2 version (My Son bought it for me for Christmas) and have played it 5 times thru already. I have been anxiously waiting to the PC version for the much higher resolution and for the mods and playing my own tunes, but these problems suck.

Thanks.

1) I've noticed a similar problem, but I'm only a few missions into it. The game has frozen up several times at the beginning of a cinematic (when you start a mission) and the screen is black. I C-A-D back out to the desktop and the cinematic scene works fine the next time.

2) The only sound problem I've noticed is a lot of hitches and echos during gameplay. I've read that lowering the sound acceleration might work, but haven't tried this yet.

3) I'm confused about what you are saying about the controller. I use the Logitech Wireless Rumblepad and it works fine for me. In my case, the left analog controller and 8-way directional pad both control movement. I don't think it's possible to map individual functions to a particular direction on the pad (if that's what you are talking about).

The Rumblepad II has a left and a right analog controller and a 8-way d pad, just like the PS2, but in this game the d pad acts like the left analog control and is not programmable in the game.

From what I have seen on this board I am disappointed by the sh!tty job they did porting it over. A lot of people have bitched about the graphics but for the versatility I can live with older graphics after all game play is very important. However I dont want to fight a battle to start the game either. I wont be getting it. If you search on the boards youll find hoards of posts about how crap the game is acting for various people.

That describes the entire GTA series. I do think that Vice City was the best of the 3 ports (GTA3, VC, SA), but each one has had it's problems.

I'll reserve judgement on SA until Rockstar releases a patch for it....and they need to hurry up based on the number of problems that everyone is having.

The game has some serious bugs - specially with ATI cards. I hate it when you spend $400-$500 on a graphics card and then developers rip off the end user who owns a graphics card from a rival company (aka ATI & nVIDIA). But anyway, I have quit playing the game for now, as it hangs after 2-3 hours of gameplay!?!? Gonna wait till both ATI and Rockstar come out with the patches.
Can someone with an ATI card post the maximum resolution he/she achieved for this POS?

Thanks.

Runs fine on my 9800 Pro.

Max res I can squeeze out is 1280x1024. Limited by my LCD.

I'm not having any technical problems, but I HATE the changed control scheme for driving. GTA III and VC were fine and I could drive great, but now I'm crashing into everything. Part of it is this new ability to control the camera while driving. Bad idea!

I also hate the need to bring up the crosshairs with the mouse. They should have the option of either locking the camera or toggling the hairs.

I asked because I have a freaking X850, and the max I was able to squeeze out was 800 X 600. LMAO
Hopefully, both ATI and Rockstart will look into it :s.

I had it playing at 1280x960 and the option for 1600x1200
When you select a new resolution, you have to hit enter before you modoesn't change the res, same as in the previous two GTA3 games.

runs fine on my 9800 pro. Yeah, the game has bugs for a lot of people. But, think about how many copies it's already sold. It's not a huge ammount. Only difference between this, and a lot of other games. Everyone and their mother buys GTA games, so naturally there will be more bug reports.

aside from the buzzing sound after I save/load a game (which goes away) I haven't had any problems, and not a single crash *shrug*

I wanted this game so bad i could taste it.

Then i remember this is rockstar we are talking about.

which means:

The developers are lieing when they say there will be multiplayer (for the 3rd time in a row).

Itll be a garbage port that will have tons of bugs, and be crashy.

Itll introduce a few inconsequential new features that are supposed to make up for the 2 above inadequecies of the game.

---------------------------------

in other words, rockstar is not getting my money this time.

I also noticed in the game, when you pick up a hooker and do the nasty, there is no moans and groans. And, the video is out of sync with the dialog. I am getting used to the lameass conrols but am eagerly waiting for a serious patch. Runs fine on my 9800 Pro at the highest settings.

I think I found the culprit as far as the random crashes are concerned. Uninstall Catalyst, download and reinstall whatever version you were running. Make sure Overdrive is Locked and VPU Recover disabled - it hasn't crashed for me since I turned off Overdrive and disabled VPU Recover.
I haven't been able to achieve anything above 800 X 600 as of yet :(.

I had problem #2 with my SB Live! 5.1 sound card. I started lowering the hardware acceleration for the sound card one notch at a time until the problem went away. Now it's at the second lowest setting. The game has been rock solid ever since.

This is a bit late and I apologize for that, but I may have a solution for your #3 problem. A friend of mine also has a Logitech game pad, and he says he was able to map buttons to the d-pad with the Wingman Software. Not having that software, I can't get into any specifics, but try that first.

I myself use a program called joytokey. It allows you to map any key to any joystick button. So what I do is map, say "Yes" to 'A', "No" to 'S', "Gang Yes" to 'D', and "Gang No" to 'F', then map those keys to the direction pad. The only side effect is that you move breifly when pressing these buttons (as it is still mapped to movement), but it is a much better solution. Also, you have to have the program running in the back to get it to work. I'm looking for a batch file or something to run that first, then GTA, but I haven't been able to get that to work yet. Hope that helps.

Here's a link, btw:

Enjoy!

I thought about using the logitech software But didnt want to go thru the whole hassle of reprogramming all of the damn buttons or even use more software taking up mem. I got used to the controls by now. I just use the KB to respond Y or N and the scroll wheel to change radio stations. Its funny, now when I play the PS2 version I for get some of the controls! PC version rocks, even with the damn bugs.
