Grand Teton Nat'l Park & Yellowstone Nat'l Park

Old post: I've been here since Saturday, and will be here until Saturday. I've been spending my spare time editing pictures in the hotel, and here's what I've got so far.

I went to Lake Tahoe last fall, and Grand Teton National Park blows it out of the water. Go! Go! Go!

Edit: Yellowstone Pics added! What an incredible place. Easily one of the most unique places on Earth. I only spent a single day there, and I'm already planning on going back for a full week (or maybe even two!).

I can't recommend these parks enough. They're simply a national treasure and should be experienced by everyone at least once in their lifetime (Especially Yellowstone. The colors alone are magnificent enough without taking the landscape into consideration).

Enjoy the pics! The colorful pools look so inviting, but don't jump in, b/c you'll be boiled alive.

Nice pics. I miss the high country desert of Wyoming...except when it gets cold and snowy.

(Wyoming has 3 seasons. July, August, and winter...and it might snow on you in all of them.) 😀

Beautiful pics! I was out there a couple times about 20-30 years ago. Would love to go out there again.........

unless you saw some grands tetons, i really don't care 😉

The best part is when I search "Tetons" in Flickr groups to add my photos, more than half of the groups that show up are tits.

Trust me - take the hike around Jenny Lake up to Inspiration Point and then through Cascade Canyon. It's one of the most scenic hikes I've ever taken. Be prepared, though - the wife and I ran into a bear and several moose on this hike.

I'm with my Mom and she can't hike, so unfortunately I can't do that. I've been to Jenny Lake and plan on taking the ferry to Inspiration Point, however. Hmmm, I don't know how much I'd enjoy encountering a bear while lugging around 30 pounds of camera equipment, haha.

Funny story -

My wife insisted on carrying the bear spray cannister on this hike. Bear spray is concentrated cayenne pepper spray, and is used to deter an attacking bear. Anyway, the bear we saw was hidden in some underbrush very well - we didn't even know it was there in spite of the fact that it was 20-25 feet away. It apparently felt threatened, bolted and ran full speed away from us. I yelled at my wife to get the bear spray out. In the excitement of the moment, she fumbled around and finally managed to spray herself on the hand.

She doesn't get to carry it anymore.

Screw bear spray, get a S&W M500.

Beautiful

When doing an HDR is it as simple and putting it in a manual mode and taking 3+ shots at different exposures? Like on my XTi, would that being the number line to adjust?

Ned, from living in that part of the country for several years, I'd MUCH rather encounter a black bear than I would a moose. Odds are, (unless you were between a mother and her cubs) the bear would do exactly what the one in your story did...the moose is more likely to charge you and fuck you up...especially a bull moose. Those sumbitches are 1000 lbs of pissed off attitude. 😀

We were on a small construction job out in the mountains of eastern Utah some 30 years ago. No housing anywhere within reasonable driving distance, so a couple of us had campers, RV's etc. parked on the job, and a couple of guys just slept in tents. BIG bull moose decided we were NOT wanted there....and trampled the tents and all their gear...then quite liberally sprayed all the wreckage. 😀

Of course, if it's a grizzly...all bets are off. Just be sure that you can run faster than anyone else in your group...😛

While I support the current regs of disallowing firearms inside the borders of national parks...when out in the wilderness and in bear country...a BIG handgun with lots of stopping power WOULD provide some sense of security.

You should have a menu setting called "AEB" (Auto Exposure Bracketing). Look in your manual and you should be good to go.
