Gran Turismo 5XL

Just wanted to say that I picked this game up from Amazon for $10 NIB and the included DLC codes worked. They are good till 3/2015.

So far for $10 this game is great. The load times aren't that bad (no worse than Forza 2 and 3). Graphics are pretty good. Racing is decent. A lot of tracks, a lot of different things to do.

Really it's a pretty decent game. Pretty surprised considering the reviews. Interesting that during the arcade or test drive version there is mechanical crash damage modeling but during the GT part there is not. Weird. Thought it would or should be the other way around.

Car sounds are not that great but I knew that going in. The Redbull prototype is IMPOSSIBLE to drive with the game pad.

How do I get access to all "1000" or so cars?

For PS3 owners this game is a steal at $10.

It's a decent game. It's no Forza 5, but it's a good game in it's own right. What's wrong with the car sounds? They sound just like real life.*

So why didn't you get GT6? From reviews people say GT6 is everything 5 should have been.

So..you don't think it's as good as Forza 4 either? Or you think my comparison of a last gen. console game to one of this gen. is unfair?

My guess is because one is $10 and the other $60?

This isn't really directed at you, but I don't know if people just have a hard time comprehending that some people put value figures on things or what (much like the people who seemingly can't figure out that someone might take issue with Forza 5 not being worth $60 + however much extra for the DLC to help remedy its lack of content), but there's plenty of games that would be fine if they were cheaper. GT5 for me was a game that would have been good if it was $30-40. It was mostly there, but did not come off as a finished game and needed quite a bit more polish to be worth full price. GT6 is what GT5 should have been, but that doesn't mean people think that's worth $60 now, especially if they paid $60 for GT5 and feel they got taken a bit. People wanted more than what the previous game should have been (seriously how hard is it for them to improve the engine sounds?).

Probably still fixated on the 14 tracks and *gasp* "only 200 cars"

I know you're trying to make a snide comment but that's actually a very valid reason to not compare the two.

What is funny though is how you made it very well known how tired you are of the whole DLC argument, yet here you are bringing it up again.

I think both are true. I think Forza 4 still trumps GT6, and I think it doesn't make sense to compare Forza 5 to GT6.

Of course since there'll be the usual suspects who make it sound like any criticism of a game (and woe if its a popular one...) is condemning it and putting it as an atrocity of all mankind, I feel the need to say, GT5 and GT6 (and yes, even Forza 5) are not terrible games, far from it. They're just not great games that are worth $60, and Forza 4 really shows those games' shortcomings (much like how Forza 4 and the GT games show some of Forza 5's shortcomings). Forza 4 is still the peak of console racer sims. Hopefully both will exceed it and we'll see healthy competition and get 2 great, maybe even stellar games in the next iteration of these franchises.

Yes GT5 is $10 and GT6 is $60, because 6 is newer and everything 5 should have been, so it's worth more. Is it worth 6 times more? For some it's yes for others it's no. For me? I still have GT5 and I'm happy with it for now.

Know what's worse? a Post that adds nothing except changing the words of someone else in a quote and then saying they fixed their comment. It shows they had nothing to bring and just wanted to be an ass.

Also...comparing two racing games is very valid. No matter what argument one decides to attempt, they are both games from the same genre.

Nope, I was agreeing with you. Not only is GT6 no Forza 5, it's not even Forza 4.

Forza 4 simply blew it out of the water as well.

I agree that people shouldn't post posts that don't do much other than agree with something someone else said.

Please read my reply above. Apparently my initial post flew right over your head.

Yep, bought GT5 XL BECAUSE it was only $10 NIB with $20 "worth" of DLC and because my Xbox ethernet is borked and I can't get online with it so upgrading to Forza 4 from 3 for me is pointless.

I did really like Forza 3 and still do. I like it a better than GT5 but GT5 is in no way bad. There's just so much more to do than in Forza. I like the dirt and snow stuff, the arcade mode, test drive, license tests and the special events that let's you rack up a lot of "points" really fast.

And it was only 10 FREAKING $$$$$! Cause I'm cheap like that. 😉

The differences between GT5XL and GT6 are not that huge. The courses and cars are similar, the graphics and physics are similar. The in-game progression is supposed to be hugely different, but I can hardly notice it. I'd stick with the $10 and move to GT6 is you really need more later.
