I dont pay attention to the grammys, and due to the search I just performed, doesn't look like many of you do either...

Amy Winehouse got Record of the Year, Herbie Hancock got Album of the Year...

Can someone explain to me what the difference is? Please don't tell me they give out an award based on vinyl vs cd...

As in who wrote it. Song of the year is who performed it. And who the heck is Herbie Hancock?

A more appropriate question is what's the difference between Record and Song of the year.

Record is for songwriting.

Song is for performance.

Edit: Now I'm confused - it might be the other way around...

A Jazz musician ... anyways, I'm just glad that Amy Whinehouse and Kanye didn't get it.

That's a little backwards. Song OTY is for the writers while record the singer.

Having both record and album is a bit stupid though; at least come up with a better name to differentiate.

Also what's up with the lieftime awards now. I remember when they were started. Then they began awarding multiple ones per show. Last night they were tossing the damn things out between each grammy given. Felt like it was a bad elementary baseball league where each kid got a trophy.

I just discovered they gave a Grammy to Obama, and that Clinton and Carter were in the running for it.
