or
Kurtz is a "remarkable man".

for those who cant see it, period is just in different spot.
 
depends on if you're using american or british grammar rules. americans tend to put periods before end brackets regardless, proper english looks at the sentence inside the brackets to see if it stands on its own as a sentence to determine if it needs one.
