its plural but really has no singular, or is it vice versa? damn!
you have to say a grain of rice. don't know what you'd say for a singular "grit" though.

While we are on the topic of grammar... accronyms do not use apostrophes either.
ex...I am going to sing my ABCs.

Actually... ABC's, ABCs it can be either way. Here

I can find about as many references saying it's okay as say not. I like them without the apostrophe. CDs, DVDs, ABCs
