The english language sucks. Why should someone strive to understand, or master crap?

Why would someone get a masters degree in operating a cotton gin? Its outdated technology, so your just throwing your time and money away.

Why master english when all you are learning is a crap language?

Do we dress up a bloated dead dog on the side of the road? No, we recognize it for what it is, a dead, bloated, stinking dog.

Grammar nazis are like pointing out a dead dog. Yea, its a dead dog, so what?

Don't worry, you should start learning Espanol anyway. It's the future in Texas.

Make your own language. Your dog will understand and no one else will care.

Who is forcing it on you today? You've been an adult for a while now, plenty of time for you to pick any language you want.

Though, by judging his thread, he's too fucking stupid to learn any other language.

God forbid you have proper grammar so you don't have to sound like a fucking imbecile when you carry on day to day communication.

Instead of debating the opening post, you attack the poster.

That is brilliant.

At least part of this thread title makes sense. The OP has in fact, mastered crap.

It is only garbage if you use it that way. Learn to use it properly and it can be a concise language capable of sublime nuances of meaning.

What's there to debate? You stated the sky is plaid, everyone else just laughed at you, and ignored you because of the obvious. Why waste time?

What's there to debate? Why waste time?

If english was not so complicated, imagine how much time and money we could save in schools? Why teach kids english from the time they start school all the way through college?

Wouldn't it be a better idea to adopt something that was easier to learn?

Through the entire education system, how much time, money and resources are wasted on the english language? How many trees were cut down to make the text books, how much ink had to be make to print the books, how much fuel to transport the books?

If english was easier, we could probably shave years off the education system, and save billions of tax payers money.

Oh crap, after reading more of his posts, I feel bad now. I will stop being mean.

I did not realize that the OP's school bus had seat-belts when he was younger.

How many years of english do you think you took from 1st grade all the way through college?

I never took English beyond high school. Well, I did take a semester of American Lit before dropping out of college (I spent all of my time getting 'lit'. rimshot).

I owe most of my grammatical skill to, IIRC, a seventh grade teacher who was a total wise and beautiful woman but really pounded the stuff into us. That, plus an eighth grade teacher that was a real 'O Captain my Captain' type. I learned pretty much nothing in high school.

That makes it all the more baffling to me when 'educated' (degree-holding) folks can hardly string a coherent sentence together.

It's not being a 'Nazi' as much as being angered and saddened by the state of our society. I know Europeans who learned English as a second language, and with only, say, 2-4 years of study, they write and often speak English more intelligibly than most Americans.

edit: and the OP should realize that there is a reason said Europeans learn English. It is one of the most universal languages. Swedish, Finnish, ect...notsomuch. They have the sense to realize that it's good for their children to learn a language that is very commonly understood in other countries.

I wish I knew a second language worth a damn. I took German for two years and basically learned nothing.

What about mathematics! Think of how much time and money we could save if we didn't have such complex math.

Fortunately as a educated man, I know the answer to both those questions.
Sure, it would save time and money, at the expense of our ability to use this tool for complex and nuanced results.

Language is complex because we have complex things to communicate.

Cavemen had very simple communication systems, because their world was simple. In an evolved and advanced society, you need more eloquent and structured ways to communicate effectively. We just can't grunt and gesture our ways through any longer, though it may suffice for you.

Most people see that there is no need for an argument, you, on the other hand...

PS: OMG You're in South East TX? Where at in Houston lets meet up and be butt-buddies! OMG! LOL!

There's no way around language, any language, being anything other than insanely complex.

There is not one [fully developed] language [in the modern world], that is anything but insanely complex and difficult to master. When learning ANY language other than your own, you'll quickly discover there are nuances that are very difficult, and you'll understand that many native speakers of said language don't understand the small details.
