Recommend me for that position = good.
Recommend me a book = bad.

Meh, give me a break. Dropping "to" before an indirect object is common in English. Show me a better way!

Hear me out here!

I'm guilty of this. Virtually every time I use an ellipsis, I use four periods instead of three, which is technically incorrect, but for some reason I find it more visually appealing....

uhm so I hope the guy who ate the other guys face really doesn't have that virus..
A virus to make you wanna eat a human..
Is this not like zombies or somethin??
Let me hear somethin abt IL and Im buyin a gun off the street, on life. . .
Matter fact Im goin to Walmart n fillin the gun card shit out.. JUST in case..
Looks like not as bad as she used to be.
Blatant misspelling even though they do know how to properly spell. I've caught her misspellings on professional documents here in work & have called her out on it several times. I used to jab at her for always intentionally spelling shit incorrectly on her FB. But I hid her updates long ago so rarely venture to her page to see what drama she's getting into at any time of the day. Sometimes it's so bad, I can't even interpret what she saying.
At least trying to give the impression of some kind of intelligence is a turn-on. Even when not always grammatically correct.

I would fuck most of you guys because you's know how to spell & shit yo.

"Give" and "show" are both ditransitive verbs.

And so is the verb recommend in the phrase "recommend me something."

Definition - A verb which takes a subject, a direct object, and an indirect object.

Example -
In the sentence I gave him a drink the distransitive verb gave has a subject (I), a direct object (a drink), and an indirect object (him).

Surely you are not somehow trying to claim that "give" and "show" are fundamentally and always distransitive verbs in some sort of claimed contradistinction to "recommend," because they clearly are not.

Examples of ALL THREE not being distransitive verbs:

Give that to me.

Show your penis to me.

Recommend a better grammar teacher to me.

Examples (if you need this) of all three being distransitive verbs:

Show me your dick.

Give me some head.

Recommend me a good crack whore.

Should of/Could of/Would of/etc

I never understood why some make such a huge deal with that. It's accepted in speech, why not in writing? It may not be the academic proper way but we're not in school anymore, who cares? Nobody is being graded for a paper here.

Really most grammar nazisms I never understood. Don't people have better things to do then analyze every single word someone writes?

My pet peeve? Its when the Internet can't figure out where to put it's apostrophes.

Yes, I know I have my apostrophes backwards in my its/it's-es.

Are you serious? It's not "accepted in speech." You say should've/could've/would've.

Why is it a big deal? Because it's a mistake a literate person shouldn't make.

No it's not.

"Should've" != "Should of" even though they sound the same.

No it's not.

"Should've" != "Should of" even though they sound the same.

Exactly, so at the end of the day it gets the message across and that's what matters. People write much worse when texting, this is VERY minor.

Beside, "should have" just sounds so wrong even though it's technically right. "Should of" just flows better imo.

LMAO ok I have to admit I was trolling there, I just can't believe how up tight you guys can be when it comes to this stuff. It's hilarious. Big freaking deal how people type. I should of kept going but I don't want to offend anybody that badly and make anybody cry. Too hilarious.

But "should have/could have/must have" still sounds odd.

and mattress/mattressi and octopus/octopi 😛
NO. NO. NO.

I registered to this forum JUST to correct you.
IT IS NOT, "OCTOPI".
IT IS, "OCTOPODES".

PLEASE, on a forum with, "Grammar Nazis" everywhere, do not, DO NOT, get those two mixed up.

That's my draconian-sized pet peeve.

Other than that, I don't mind when someone makes mistakes (although they annoy me), but when they're inconsistent about their mistakes. E.G.:

i went 2 america
Really? What was it like?
wen I went 2 America...

Also, when I correct someone and they try to argue the point.
Listen up, bitches:
IF YOU WERE CORRECT, I WOULD NOT HAVE CORRECTED YOU IN THE FIRST PLACE.

~ General Argument. ~

"Octopuses" is a standard, but I still consider it wrong. I'm not sure if it's possible to say as such (as I don't know if the rules of English are purely black and white), but though it is not as bad as, "Octopi", it's not as good as, "Octopodes".

This is the argument:

Octopi (*cringes*): A group of grammarians wanted it to fit in with English, so they, thinking it was Latin, changed the ending from -us to -pi. Perfectly understandable, but it was wrong.

Octopuses (*shrug*): It simply became standardized English, that is to say, people just got used to saying it (like, "Should of" instead of, "Should have").

Octopodes (*cheers*): After the, "Octopi" incident, a (better?) group of grammarians found out (or knew) that the word, "Okto" was actually Greek, and meant, "Eight". They also knew that, "Pod" means, "Leg" (or pertaining to feet, at any rate). This means, that, combined the word given was, "Oktopod". The K was changed into a C, but for some reason (perhaps because the word was Latinized to -us, as -pod is not in Latin (as far as I know)), the ending -us was given. Regardless of this, the newer grammarians gave it (correctly) the pluralized ending, "Podes".

~ General Argument. ~

P.S. We can still be friends. :3

The word, while originally Greek, is more recently from New Latin, so it is incorrect for you to say that octopi is wrong. You even mention how the singular has been Latinized, yet complain when people use a Latinized form of the plural. That is mind bogglingly illogical.

Next time you complain so vehemently about something, make sure you're actually right.
