grainy dvd quality on toshiba 16x dvd rom

Hey guys, i was watching a dvd the other day when i noticed the quality ( or lack of) while watching my DVD. I have an optiquest Q95 with a geforce 2 pro (starforce - MSI). The picutre comes out grainy and when compared to watching a DVD on a TV the difference is night and day. I am using powerdvd XP. Should I be able to get TV sharp images while watching a dvd?

btw, i have a toshiba 16x dvd rom

It shouldn't be - sounds like a software problem as long as your processor is faster than 500mhz. Check to make sure you have DMA enabled on the DVD drive.

UDMA is enabled and am running an Athlon XP 1900+ with 512 ddr ram

Try different software, Intervideo has a DVD player you can trial run for 30 days.

I think it would be a problem with the software decoder or possibly your video card drivers.
