Now, I can of course google this but has any one here used a pressure washer? Is it something a layperson can do (if I purchase the equipment) or should i leave that to the professionals?

Buy a pressure washer. You will find using it is one of the few real joys in life.

it really doesn't matter where you look within the 5 boroughs and even beyond (long island, yonkers). there's going to be random acts of vandalism anywhere in a large city.
the population is too high and chances of assholes being among them are pretty good.

Get one of those motion detector sprinklers that are supposed to deter deer.

I like this idea. Not only will it deter the neighborhood hoodlums, it will provide entertainment as you watch them yell in surprise and run away.

excellent idea

My guess your house was tagged b/c it was empty. Once you move in, you probably won't have anything to worry about. Unless, you're living in the hood.

where in brooklyn is this?

and to the person that suggested a fence, they'll just spray on his fence.

Bushwick, which is safe as far as drive-bys are concerned, but there's still petty vandalism

The neighborhood's median household income in was $31,531, making it the 45th highest earning neighborhood in the City. 32% of the population falls under the poverty line, making Bushwick the 7th most impoverished neighborhood in New York City.

Bushwick is what Williamsburg was 10 years ago... not exactly the safest place in nyc.

Why not Astoria if you're after a garage and trains? Much better neighborhood imo.

Screw motion-detecting lights. Go for a pair of motion-detecting turrets. They will not be back, I promise.

Good point. They might offer the OP protection from other taggers. 😉

Seriously man, it's just a pressure washer, it's not that complicated.

I'm about as handy as a.. something that's not handy.. that's like saying "seriously, it's a chainsaw - you pull the cord.. it's not complicated.." 20 minutes later I'm sitting, limbless, in a puddle of my own blood. I was thinking it might be some heavy duty thing that I end up breaking all of my windows because I had no idea what I was in for..

OK,a pressure washer's added to my shopping list.

Judging by how this post is written and the others and the bad things that happen to you. Are you BIlly Crystal practicing his jewish old man schitk?

mount a video camera (real or fake, working or not) with a red light on it... make sure it's out of reach.

that and motion lights work in my opinion.

Nah, I'm honestly having a great month - I'm closing on my first house, my first wedding anniversary is in a few weeks, I'm looking forward to having to getting together with my buds and relaxing in my new home and all that great stuff.. Shit happens and none of it really gets to me. Honestly, the building I live in now is littered with graffiti and I ignore it.. It's only an issue since I'll own this building and, with ownership, comes some responsibilities.

The family thing - meh. My inlaws ... That's another story, but that's life..

I thought it was "With power come great responsibilities" Least that is what Spideys Uncle said and movies don't lie so says Peter and Homer.
