Graduation present?

What'd you guys all ask for when you graduated HS? My parents keep asking me but I really don't know what I'd use. They don't want to give me cash, which is a good idea anyway, cause I'd just spend it on controlled substances...

They said tires for my car but man if I'm gonna ask for something tires just don't seem any fun. 🙂

And then I thought of an investment. I don't know much about it, but maybe an investment of like $400 (they prolly would pay around this much for grad present) that maybe I could get at in 2 or 3 years.. CDs, stock, ?? I'm not sure what I would do.

You expect a present for finishing high school, something that you should have done for your own good? Your parents spoiled you kid.

It's not all that uncommon these days smart guy. It's not like he's getting a brand new car or anything.

Btw: My parents gave me a new golf bag for graduation.

When I graduated from HS I begged my parents to let me keep living in the house for a couple more weeks until I could find a job and an apartment. What's with this gift crap for getting through HS? You are expected to graduate from HS just as you are expected to learn how to use the "potty" at a certain age. Give me a break.

My parents were going to get me a computer for school, however the one I have works just fine for the time being. I actually had them postpone getting me one until this one has outlived it's usefulness. Basically my gift was an IOU...

Just because parents want to give their child a gift doesn't mean the kid is spoiled, it means the parents are generous and can afford to give their child a gift, that's all. It's not their fault that other people's parents would kick their kids out for turning 18 or graduating high school - I couldn't even imagine that, I'd be sad!

However, anybody that would buy drugs with their graduation gift is a total LOSER, so, I hope you get nothing!

Just because your parents wanted to kick you out of the house doesn't mean other people's parents can't give them gifts for graduation. Besides, you are expected to turn one year older on your birthday, we still give gifts for that. Why? Because it's a special occasion. Some people like giving gifts for occasions such as these. Just because you never got one, doesn't mean he can't.

Note: My parents are not rich, far from it in fact.

I bought my own graduation present.. because I have a job, so why not?

BTW I bought pretty nice watch.

if i were to buy my kid a HS graduation it'd be a nice new wallet (30/40$) and a decent watch (100$)
those are guy essentials! 😀
college? a 500$ watch

after that, the kid better get ME presents 😀

edit: i didnt ask and didnt get shiit for HS 😱. 50$ from my grandma i think. my sister just graduated and got a few hundred from various relatives

I like how whenever any kid gets a nice present for anything, half of the forum comes in and says 'OMG U R A SP0ILED BRAT U SUK!!!!11!'

All I know is that if I have kids, I'll be sure to give them nice things as long as they deserve it.

Money is the best. 🙂 I got $2k from my mother/stp-father, and $1.5k from Dad/step-mother. I still haven't spent it, it just sits in my savings account.

I get the money my parents saved up for my college (at least some of it) Why you may ask? Because I have a full ride 😉

He stated that his parents have asked him what he wants. I hardly think it would be rude to give them an answer.

Most parents these days give gifts for high school graduation I'd think, especially if the kid did good. I'm going to be a senior next year, and either way I'll be fine. My friends brother just finished his first year at Harvard, he got a really nice laptop and some other stuff, probably about 4k worth for graduating. Personally I'd probably want something like stock or a nice investment, because my parents are already nice and luckily wealthy enough to give me what I need.

TBH people who make the spoiled posts sound quite bitter.
