Graduation Gift

My sister graduated high school last week. She has a part time job and paid for all her prom and other fees for her school things. Haven't seen her since she graduated she's been out with friends a lot.

Came to visit my mother today and she tells me my sister is upset she didn't get anything from her oldest brother and all her friends got her something.

I was thinking $200 cash or a laptop since hers is almost dead. I have no idea what to get someone as a gift. My parents gave me $100 I think and this was years ago. She will be going to college so the laptop would be nice but then again I don't know.

She has a core I3 model from Dell with 4gb ram that she got in 2009 or 2010. It's on its last leg I think.

What do you guys get someone as a grad gift?

Yeah I guess you can't go wrong with cash. Can't afford to give too much because I've had a bit in my savings to pay for some crazy medical bills this year but $2-300 should be doable. Man come to think of it every time I have a good amount saved up it always finds its way out lol.

Especially if her old one isn't going to hold out much longer. It's an indispensable tool in college today. Get one with long battery life.

Yeah but I heard from my brother that my dad purchased some extra warranty on the laptop including damage warranty so if it's going to bust or she drops it off the table they can replace it. Need to find out the full details of that first.

fyi - undergraduates don't need cash. Student grant and loan will take care of that.

I'm paying back a little over $70k dollars for college. Not fun. I already advised her to take the cheapest route possible. For wanting to be a nurse, it won't really matter if her grades are good.

Colleges have computer labs. When I was in college I used my own laptop as the lab was just uncomfortable for me.

But if her current laptop can be replaced by warranty it doesn't make much sense getting another one. I think I will just put some cash in a card and hope she doesn't use it for more clothes.

She knows how to budget for a prom. Hopefully she considers living essentials just as important for when she's in college. Have faith in your sister.

If she's going off to school, give her a few months, then send her a care package just for the hell of it. My parents never did, but I always thought it was a cool concept.
