Computer, TV for her dorm room, beach cruiser to ride around campus, backpack/clothes with her school's logo on them.

This is all shit that she'll have to eBay in order to fund her partying.

She is not going to school far away or living on campus. She will be commuting and that way I can keep an eye on what she's up to.

You give what you can afford and feel comfortable with. For some this may be $20, for others $20,000.

Quite a few of my friends got new cars for high school graduation and down-payments put on a house for college graduation (some were even given houses totally paid off).

You were raised by wolves or something? High school graduation has long been an event that lead to gifts.

Yea my parents are not Americanized so they didn't really know about gifts when I graduated high school. Where they are from the accomplish ment was when you finish college. Anyway I got her a nice card and put some cash in there. I'm sure I'll be helping her get books and stuff too in the fall.

She had a nice dinner with her friends at a steakhouse and my mother would not let me chip in on the bill. She also got a car a month or two ago so she's set.

Hell when I graduated college they took me to freaking ihop lol. Of course I'm the oldest so they expect everything from me.

In many large, urban school districts it's about 50/50. So it's sort of a big deal (a rite of passage) in America lol

Well it's the truth. I didn't really care at the time. I'm not one to expect any type of gift from anybody. Parents are always more lenient on daughters anyway.
