Looking to purchase my Nephew a laptop as a graduation gift who will hopefully be going to college this fall. I've been out of the loop for sometime and don't have a clue as to what's junk or not anymore. Does anyone have some suggestions? I'm not looking to spend a fortune or get him something old. I would like the laptop to be in the 14-15" range that is built well, has a nice screen, plenty of plugins, nice feeling keyboard, great wireless range, great battery life, plenty of power.

Unless he will need to be running Virtual Machine software this will probably be the best bang for the buck in terms of CPU power for most uses besides gaming whilst being able to keep within 10% to 5% of Intel CPU's in single threaded applications as many games today still are.

in most multi-threaded tasks it will beat just about any laptop intel CPU

It should definitely be in the running.
