GQ 16x DVD-R 100 pack $14.00

DO NOT BUY THESE... HALF WILL NOT WORK!!! I originally bought some GQ cd-r's some time ago because they were really cheap, but they turned out to be complete pieces of crap. I decided to give GQ another try by buying some dual layer dvd-r's recently, but sadly none of the ones I have tried burning have worked.

its ur burner.
mine work fine.
in store price the last month or so.... so its been around for a bit.

I have used several spindles of the GQ +R discs and I rarely have problems.
The dual layer ones may have problems, but the last I knew the only good dual layer discs were Verbatim Made in Singapore.

Avoid the Made in India discs from Verbatim. I don't mean to insult India, it's just that they are fairly new to making discs, plus everyone moved to India for cost cutting and more mass production. Anyone new to manufacturing who is getting pushed to crank out high volumes while cutting costs will have more quality issues than more experienced manufacturers. India will get better over time, but for now just avoid them.

I've bought a 100 pack and a 50 pack of these in the past and no burn or viewing problems at all. The same cannot be said about TDK and Office Depot brand in my case. If I didn't already have a couple of hundred blanks setting around, and the fact that BF is around the corner I would be at Fry's getting some of these.

And your burner does have a lot to do with burn quality.

Fine, I won't buy the CD-R's. But the GQ DVD+R's which I bought about two months ago from Fry's are Mitsubishi's MCC OO4 which is pretty good stuff.

I do notice that GQ'S constantly change suppliers which annoys me sometimes.

I will never get DVD spindles shipped again. I got them in a box 3 sizes too big and the entire thing was banged to hell. All dumped into the box.

Called Office Max, they said they would refund my money and I could keep whatever worked. 4 weeks go by and no refund. Call again. 2 weeks go by finally get refund for merchandise but I'm out on the shipping. Called again and was put on hold for 20 minutes. Hung up and gave up.

Just buy them in store and save yourself the hassle.

Well, in my case, I can't find Taiyo Yuden media locally in stores. That leaves me having to purchase from SuperMediaStore or Meritline, both of which I've used to purchase 50/100 disc spindles with no issues. FWIW.

It's pretty easy to find Verbatim locally, but there are so many grades of media it's kind of a hassle to make sure you're getting the quality stuff. I've had no problems with TY 8x media whether it be DVD-R or DVD+R, so I usually buy that and save myself the trouble. When it comes to CD-Rs I just pick up a 100 disc spindle of Verbatim from Sam's Club because I usually only use those for music CDs or non-critical ISOs. But I'm a bit picker with my DVD media, and will be equally picky when I eventually make the jump to recordable Blu-ray because that's a lot of data to worry about being compromised by low-grade media.

For those saying they burn fine, that is still not the sign of quality media. I bought some GQ's from Frys a few years back and all of them burned fine. Fast forward another year and about 85% of them have degraded so bad that they are no longer readable. I highly recommend just spending the $52 at either shop4tech or supermediastore and picking up the 200 pack spindles of value-line 8x TY media.
