GPU usage/temp jumps when idle

Starting last night after I played a game and closed it out, when I leave the PC idle for a few minutes the GPU starts to act like it's being stressed - usage goes up, temp maxes out, and I can hear the fan going. No idea why. As soon as I come back and move the mouse around, it goes back to normal.
