Gpu Upgrade Advice

My current system consists of an E8400 cpu, Gigabyte EP45-UD3P mobo, 512MB HD4870 gpu, and 4GB(2GBx2) G.Skill DDR2 1066 ram. What would be my best options for upgrading the gpu without having to worry about the cpu/mobo bottlenecking it. I have a soft budget of about $185. Also, I can get 4GB more ram if that is also recommended.

Thanks

go to new egg and buy xfx 6870 for $150 ar... you probably don't need any more system memory... start saving for 2500k...

buyers remorse will eat you up if you shop now. My advice, wait a few months and you will save both money and get better performance.

if you cant wait, a gtx460 or a radeon6850/70 will do the trick.

the guy is still running a c2d... for as long as he holds on to things and the stuff he must run he'll be fine with a 6870... any new stuff will cost more for a while when it comes out...

resolution was not mentioned so if it is below 1920 then stick with what you have. at 1920x1080/1200 I would go 6870. you could go 6850 or gtx460 but I would oc those cards for sure if you do. I also would oc that cpu to 3.6 to help get more out of any gpu upgrade. 4gb of ram is fine so no need in spending more money on DDR2 for your 775 platform.
