GPU running at lower bandwidth

Hi,

I have recently purchased a Powercolor Radeon HD 7750 and installed the latest catalyst drivers (12.11). My system specs are:

MOBO: INTEL DG31PR
CPU: INTEL E5300 2.6 GHz
RAM: 2 GB DDR2
PSU: 450 W Frontech

I was playing Crysis 1 on High system specifications on 1280x1024 resolution, I am getting around 50-60 fps, but once I reached the second stage, the FPS suddenly dropped to 20-30 on the same settings. I used GPU-Z to check the GPU and the bus interface on which it was running is mentioned as 1.1 instead of 2.0. My mobo supports PCI-e 2.0 as per it's specifications. Could that be the cause of the FPS drop?

Thanks in advance...

gpu-z will show 1.1 if the gpu is not under load.
Thanks, I didn't know that GPU-z will show 1.1 if the GPU is not on load. But, my mobo is capable of running at 2.0 right? And if that is not the issue then what is the cause of the drop in FPS in Crysis 1 with the same settings as the previous level?

If you click the question mark next to the PCIe reading in GPUz then it will render something to make the the PCIe bus ramp up to it's full bandwidth, like it would with a game. It's only at 1.1 to save power.

I clicked the question mark next to the rating and the GPU usage increased to full potential, but still the bus width is shown as 1.1 instead of 2.0. What do do?

your MB only supports PCIe 1.1 (G31 chipsets do not do 2.0). It would not make much of a difference with your card anyway, and certainly not a 50% drop in fps. Make sure v-sync is turned off. BTW, the first level in Crysis 1 is not demanding per se compared to the other higher levels (esp. the frost levels).

The specs say that the board is 2.0 and I checked the card with Mafia 2 game with the following settings: Anti Aliasing On, 16xAF all settings maxed, resolution of 1280x1024. I am experiencing a very smooth gameplay and the benchmark results in the game are showing an average FPS of 27-30 which is comfortable for gameplay.

The second level be so demanding that the FPS suddenly drops 50% in Crysis, with the same settings? Is it just because it is Crysis 1 or because the card is running @ 1.1?
