Probably will bottleneck a little bit. But reaching 4.3 Ghz with a 4770k is not very hard.

Swiftech H220 will cool that 4770k easily or a Corsair H100i .

But if I were you, I would just OC that 3570k or get a 3770k. Your board and RAM are more than enough. Also, that CoolerMaster M2 850w is also plenty enough.

I'm rotating my entire setup to my girls rig. She's still on an old AMD cpu, and needs an i5/i7. But she will be keeping her 7950 boost, so I can attempt to sell my 6990.

What is your budget?

Thermaltake Overseer RX-I Snow Edition (This is to house my old parts for my gf)
SeaSonic X Series X-850 PSU
Samsung 840 EVO 500gb
i7-4770k
ASROCK Z87 Extreme6
Noctua NH-D14
Crucial Ballistix Sport Low Profile (2x8) 16GB
Asus DVD Drvie
Windows 7
(2x) EVGA Superclocked Reference 780

So right now Im around $2400 D:

No true budget limit. I just don't want to regret my purchase.

I think I'm evolving my plan. If I go to an SLI 780 setup and leave my gf on a single 7950 boost, the gap will be gigantic. So I might buy the 2 reference 780's (or maybe 780ti's) and run them separately in our 2 boxes, so we can both enjoy some replay value on BL2 w/ PhisX. But then in August when I free up more funds, buy 2 additional cards to run SLI in both rigs.

Could I find a set of reference 780/780ti from a retailer 5-6 months from now? I have had bad luck in the past with some amd cards, where they were discontinued by the time I could afford the 2nd card.

Alright, I just spent a lot of money :ninja:

New Rigs:

My setup
i7-4770K @ ~4.2GHz | Noctua NH-D14| ASROCK Z87 Extreme6 | 16GB Crucial Ballistix Sport VLP 1600
EVGA SC 780ti Reference | Samsung 840 EVO 500GB SSD | SeaSonic X-850| Thermaltake Overseer RX-I
Asus VG278HE 144Hz 1080p

My girls setup
i5-3570K @ 3.4GHz | ASUS P8Z77-V LK | 16GB Crucial Ballistix 1600 | EVGA SC 780ti Reference
WD 500GB Raptor | Cooler Master M2 850w| Thermaltake Overseer RX-I Snow | Asus VG278HE 144Hz 1080p

When I go for SLI in both rigs around August. I will attempt to scrape the thermal paste off the 3570k and attach a Noctua DH-14 for OC.

I should have everything built out next weekend. I will post pictures to this thread when all is done.

Now to attempt to sell a 3 yr old 6990 & a 1 yr old 7950 boost o_O

Ok - I should have pictures later this week to post. It looks like I may have already sold the 7950 boost, just the 6990 left now.

The GPU portion of anandtech seems to get more traffic than some of the other areas. So I figured I would link my threads from CPU OC & Motherboards, just in case one of you guys can help with those questions.

CPU OC - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2375719

Motherboard - http://forums.anandtech.com/showthread.php?t=2376031

I'll follow up with pictures of my terrible cable management skills soon ;)

Jump, both feet first! I recently upgraded from 6990 quadfire to 290 crossfire and it was a very noticeable improvement. The extra memory and performance make it a much better experience. You should experience an even bigger improvement and no waiting for xfire profiles for new games.

The "Snow Edition" of my case really makes the blue LED pop. The white just does a great job of reflecting/enhancing the blue. Where as my black version of the case absorbs the blue. The result with them side by side makes mine look dull. So now I'm debating adding aftermarket lighting to the case. Worst case, I may purchase a 2nd snow edition and swap internals again lol But I'm trying to avoid that.

EDIT: My buyer for the 7950 boost backed out. Trying to sell it ~$275, never been OC. Only 1 year old. I also have a 3yr old 6990 that has never even had the OC bios turned on. Looking for ~$300 OBO.

Updates

I have added (2) 12" cold cathodes to the case. One blue/top and one green/bottom. I also put in individually sleeved cable extensions. Night and day when I was done.
