I'm going to hold off hopefully until the 560 launches so I can see what it does to the market.

but the rig in my sig(kelvin) is going to give its 5870 to my new build for xfire.

kelvin is going to my living room for HTPC/3d gaming on my Mitus 120hz DLP

Purchase Details:

1.Budget(Be sure to include currency if not USD):
~200bucks? 300 tops.

2.Do you consider rebates?
sure

3.Brand Preference:
reputable. MSI, ASUS, Gigabyte, Sapphire, XFX, PNY, EVGA..
never had a HIS or powercolor, and dont know much about them

4.Is the performance added by overclocking something you would take into consideration?
I would rather OC to extend usage time than use it from the get go, but I'm open to options

5.Have you previously looked at a product which you feel would fill your needs?
not really, hard to find as most reviews dont test this stuff

6.Which games (If any)do you plan to play and @ which desired detail levels?
dirt 2, NFS, BC2. coming soon? brink?

I would like to be able to turn lots of visuals up if possible

7. Are there any other uses(Folding, Photoshop, Video editing or watching Blu-Ray) or features (DX11, CUDA, OpenGL, 3D, Eyefinity) you are looking for besides gaming?
3D movies and games, DX11..... x234. ripping blu-ray in the future maybe?

System Specs:

1. Pre-built(HP, Dell, etc)? Ordering(a new computer) or Upgrading?

changing out from a 5870

2.Monitor Resolution:
1080P.
http://www.mitsubishi-tv.com/product/WD65C10 <- my TV

3.Processor:
Q9550

4.Power Supply Unit:
Antec TruPower Trio 650

I might purchase a modular PSU for it, 500w min I would guess as they dont make many moidulars less than 500w

5.Case Dimensions(Length, Low Profile, Cooling):
NZXT Vulcan, fits my 5870 with room to spare.....

feel to tell me I'm dreaming at 200 bucks, and if its rough at 300.....

maybe if I get something that will be OK, and really get something good next yearish when 28nm lauches thats fine. I have a 5670 in my server that doesn't need to be there once I build my SB rig and this becomes a HTPC. And I could milk that for a while if need be.

I also have a 8600GTS sitting in a machine thats there because it doesnt have onboard. I played a few games on it, but wont need it to do that with my new build pending....(as a potential stopgap, but he 5670 should outperform it in every way right?)

also no xfire/sli. mobo doesnt support it

Another 5870? I think you know where to get one! :)

But honestly, what would you want that the 5870 at $200 doesn't get you? Lower noise/temps/power use? Smaller card? Specific AV features? I don't imagine any $200 card really eclipsing the 5870 in these categories, nor do I imagine that the GTX560 will be $200 or will force other cards down to $200.

3D is going to be your biggest hurdle here. You need to make sure you get parts that are compatible. Your TV may not be compatible for 3D gaming.

You didn't bother reading his post, did you? He's going to play in 3D.

I have a tough time believing you can go less than a 570, but depending on your distance you might be ok turning down the resolution when you do 3D.

Sorry, forgot about that. From the AMD website:

"AMD HD3D technology is enabled on ATI Radeon HD 5000 Series GPUs and above using Catalyst 10.10 or later, however Blu-ray 3D playback is only supported on AMD Radeon HD 6000 series GPUs and above." http://www.amd.com/US/PRODUCTS/TECHNOLOGIES/AMD-HD3D/Pages/how-it-works.aspx

3D movie playback shouldn't be too big a problem. The 6800 and 6900 cards can do it, as well as the GTX 460 and presumable the GTX 560.

3D gaming... is going to potentially be the challenge. His TV will first need to do real 120Hz.

the 5870 doesnt so some of the new 3D features is the only thing that worrys me. Or else I would be making my brother buy one(for the rebate, I have done one already, and my dad just did my second purchase of the rebate...)

really its only missing blu-ray 3d........I guess I need to decide how important that is to me.

I am not worried aboutr hdmi1.4 because my onkyo is 1.3a.

and I wont need the ethernet part anyways.

the 5870 can do eyefinity at 57x12, so it can easily do 3d at 1080p.

its mostly bluray it wont do

my TV is compatible, its a new 120hz DLP. everywhere lists it as compatible

seems you have 2 choices buy a 6870 for 210$ or wait for the faster gtx560 for about 250$.

I assume the 6870 has all the 3d features.

I don't know, who does 3d better Nvidia or AMD?

yeah it says it does.....

AMD doesnt list the 69xx's, and I assume its because their page is out of date.

I don't think you can get a better card than a 5870 for $200. Your only real option would be a 6950 for $300, and it's debatable if even that's worth it.

We didn't make that large of a leap in terms of performance this generation, so replacing a high end card (~$400) with mid-high end card (~$200-300) isn't going to have the same results as it has in past generations.

I didnt get a response yet, but *someone* who posted in this thread got that one

I'm not in a huge hurry so its not a big deal. I can wait a little longer.

My build still needs a SSD(unless I can it to wait for the q2 sata iii launches), a case, some fans maybe(stupid GT's are sold out almost everywhere....)

and sandy bridge to actually release so I can buy a CPU and Mobo

if for some reason he doesnt, I'll snag one of the MSI 6950's on rebate most likely.
