So I dropped a new CPU in my motherboard today and fired it up. I upgraded from a AMD 64 3800+ to a X2 4400+. I'm running a ECS board with a X1950 pci-e card 2gigs of DDR 400 ram and a BFG 550w psu. On the new processor I installed a Zalman 770. I have had no problems with games before I installed this new chip/fan but now I get GPU reset error when I play supreme commander. I played Battlefield 2 and 2142 without any errors but when I attempted to play Supcom with a buddy thats when my GPU crashed. I downloaded Hmonitor and although I can only use it for 10 minutes it shows my mobo spiking in the 70c ranges. Ive been to ECS's site and there is a new bios for my mobo that pertains to the CPU overheating in X2 chips. My question is are the GPU crashing and the heat of the motherboard related or did I somehow fry my gfx card while it I was replacing the CPU. I have yet to flash my bios but if that doesn't work I would rather get some more ideas than be left in the dark. Even thought the board is a cheap frys special, its been very good and been kept quite cool until this. Any thoughts? thanks.
