GPU going to sleep or something?

I'm trying to figure out why my desktop keeps going black after a certain amount of time of inactivity. Does the GPU have its own sleep setting somewhere? I have all screen savers and sleep/hibernate functions disabled in control panel. I recently formatted my PC and this started happening, whereas it didn't before.

screen going black is a different setting than screen saver.

Assuming you're on Windows.

Power Options -> Change Plan Settings -> Turn off display after = Never

Monitor setting?

No its definitely the system. I noticed it when I was sitting on my bed away from PC for a bit of time. Out of the corner of my eye I noticed the taskbar switched from my custom aero style back to the default non aero, and then the monitor went black. I walked over to the PC, shook the mouse and the screen came back and was normal again. No message about a display driver crash either.

Maybe try to disable C3 C6 C7 in BIOS

Have you tried to set the Power plan settings to High performance.

Also make sure the screen saver options are set to none

Monitor – Lastly, some monitors have power saving features themselves. Usually, the monitor is supposed to go into power saving mode if it doesn’t detect any input (HDMI, VGA, DVI, etc), but sometimes it happens unexpectedly.
You’ll have to press the buttons on the monitor to get access to the monitor settings
