GPU fan speed controller?

I recently upgraded my case, and got a fan controller for the 4 case fans. Also replaced the HSF to a Thermaltake Silent Boost. (man, I should have done this long ago! :)) Anyway, long story short, the thing is really quiet now, and the loudest thing in there is the GPU's fan (see sig). I was wondering if there was any software that controlled this. It's not too loud, but the case sits less than 2 feet from my left ear, and I'd like it to be a little quieter when not doing graphic-intensive computing. I'm a little hesitant to remove the GPU HSF, so if I can avoid getting an NVsilencer, I'd like to. However, I suppose I could if that's my only option.

Also, would hooking up a simple fan controller help with this? I've been reading online, and people have claimed (perhaps ignorantly) that the fan controller killed their cards, so I was wondering.

Thanks in advance!

id try the 6800softmod and overclock like crazy with an NV silencer, ur best choice. or u could get an aftermarket chipset heatsink and ramsinks, add a ooohh....40 mm fan on it with a controller. Hey, does ur VGA fan spin up really fast rite before windows desktop loads? And in between 3dmark tests? i dont know wuts making the noise in my comp, mayb the cd drive, but its really wierd.

yeah, mine spins up really fast at post...and I was hoping not to install an NVsilencer, as it will void warranty, and I'm a little apprehensive about voiding a $270 piece of hardware. Same goes for the softmod, although I may try that. I've been holding back because I figured I was CPU limited, and OCing the GPU wouldn't do much for performance.

Is there a software solution to this? (that is, controlling the GPU fan speed).
