Just some anecdotal evidence but my system is a 4670k at 4.7 and a 780ti at 1137 at 1080p. Friend's system is a i5 760 at 3.8 and a 7950 at 1100, also 1080p. We both see roughly the same minimums 65-70fps. Both using identical settings. Both on win8.1

Is it he using Mantle at CPU limited game settings?

Yea the difference is mantle completely. This is multiplayer btw. Both of us running next to each other in the same server. And it is definitely cpu bound scenarios we are having. I'm never maxing out my 780ti at 1080p unless I really crank the res scaling to 140+. Just shows the power of mantle taking an i5 760 at 3.8 and making it comparable to a 4670k at 4.7.

The damn problem about fps in eg bf4 is its damn hard to settle for lower fps if you are used to high smooth fps using mantle on a new high perf i5 like in this scenario. Its more easy to get more fps...

I just got a new 1440p screen to replace my 1080p and had to lower to medium settings on my 7970 ghz to just barely get the fps i needed. Lol. What a pain. I have an itx so cf 290 is out of the question. I hope mantle gpu perf improves or i have to wait a year before 20nm mantle cards is ready.

I just went back to NV for my main rig after a string of AMD setups, and am very happy. Compared to my 290 pro, the 770 is cooler, quieter, and overclocks better.

To be fair it does have an aftermarket cooler, but it was still only $329 after Fry's price-matched Newegg over the weekend. At 1080p, it is very very smooth.
