GPU crashing

IllogicalGlory

My brother recently upgraded from an outdated 5850/5870 mixfire setup to a 7870 GHz, but when he plays games for an extended period (Borderlands 2 in this case), the screen flashes off and there's a little flash of static or whatever.

The GPU is not overclocked.

What could be the problem here? Outdated drivers, perhaps? He's using Catalyst 13.4

He also has a 1000w PSU. No idea why, but that should be fine obv.

Still crashes after installing 13.10 drivers and increasing the power limit and switching to an XFX 7870 instead.

Most crashes are actually blue screens.

Any ideas?

If you're getting blue screens it would be helpful if you could either upload the dmp files or paste the analysis. The reliability history, which you can access from the Action Center in the control panel will give you the errors and the location of the corresponding dmp file.

So you've replaced the first 7870 he got with a different one and he's still experiencing crashes? Have you used driversweeper to do a complete purge?

My brother did use amd's catalyst driver removal before installing the new one.

I'll see if I can get that reliability history.
