GPU Cooler Review @ sudhian

To bad they didn't include the now available VF1 Plus............and the Thermalright V1 Ultra........those two are the top of the line in performance right now from the reviews I've seen and the VF1 Plus is cheaper/quieter/top performance.

That's not a review, that's a Zalman commercial. There's no way the A2 would be that bad compared to the others.

Also, what's up with the CPU and case temps being lower at low RPM of the VF900 than at medium and high RPM? Some of those measurements must be flawed.

These reviews that I've seen in the last couple of days have been all over the place. Hard to tell which really cools the best.

suszterpatt,

Here is a good hands-on review of the A2 by someone who purchased it to cool an ATI x1900xt - http://www.xtremesystems.org/forums/showthread.php?t=91422

It seems as though the cooler didn't really drop the temps so much from the stock cooler as it decreased noise. The thread includes pictures and makes for a good read.

I'm interested in the Thermalright V-1 Ultra, but wonder if the fan blows air toward the card or sucks air from the card. I'm trying to determine airflow direction if using this card in my case. Take a look at the install instructions on their site - http://www.thermalright.com. The step 10 picture shows the card installed, but no airflow arrow that I can see.

Thanks

By the picture shown on the Thermalright site, it's sucking air off. I would think that with the design of this card that would be the optimal effective use.

EndGame,

Thanks for the reply. That was kinda what I thought. I'm using an Antec P180 with an A8nsli premium, so it would seem as though the fan would suck the hot air off the card in the direction of my two/top exhaust fans and cpu.

I'm thinking the Zalman VF900-Cu would blow air downward or horizontal because the gpu chipset and stock cooler currenty face downward if I recall. I'll have to look when I get home.

The Zalman as well as the Acceleros will keep the air on the slot side of the case so good ventilation IMHO will be a must although I've read from some that their ambient temps. did not raise much.

I have the Kuformula VF1's on mine and I'm extremely happy with them, but if I didn't, I'd choose the V1 Ultra.

Hmm, interesting. I guess that at very low RPM's that would be the case, though I can't really imagine why AC would make a cooler that's so silent at top speed instead of just offering the option of easily downvlolting the fan. I still think there's some installation tricks folks aren't aware of.

Yeah, the TR fan's blades are slanted in the opposite direction thab usual, I think they're sucking air off the heatsink.
