Allo! Especially to cupcake and others who have helped me before, too :). On anandtech, For some reason I can't remember my old username and/or password so I made a new account. Kinnishian has always been my folding name.

Anyhow, the issue I've been having is I can't get my gpu client to run even after complete wipe of the folder and downloading the most recent console build. Here's a .txt file generator, sans the downloading section

This is the only information I can think of offering someone who would be kind as to offer possible solutions but of course I will listen and add others when/if informed too.

Sorry, it's a lot of text; I'm not sure what to make of it as the problem could have developed anytime during the two weeks last month (since then using 2x cpu as I have a dualcore) while I had no clients running.

Another question I've never considered as I either use my computer without one of the clients or the other time have both running- How long is it before the clients adapt to the fact you now desire more cpu power (Ie just came back from not using computer, open firefox, or something of the like)

Are you trying to run the gpu client as a service?

If this is the case you need to reconfigure the client. The current gpu client does not support running as a service.

Start > Run > C:\Program Files\Folding@HomeGPU\FAH5.91beta3-console.exe -configonly

Run as a service: No

Thanks, however, I'm not trying to run it as a service. Just the default [No]

I don't run any of my clients as services, running that way doesn't offer speed improvements does it?

Are you running one gpu client and one standard cpu client on that dual core?

Make sure that each instance has an unique Machine ID and that you use the -local flag on their respective shortcuts.

You can also try to force video card detection by using the -gpu 0 flag.

For example in the gpu shortcut target box put:

C:\Program Files\Folding@HomeGPU\FAH5.91beta3-console.exe -local -verbosity 9 -gpu 0

I tried the gpu tags, and they did not fix the problem. However, I have not been using the -local tag. Despite that, I've been only testing this running the GPU alone. I can't get it to run at all.

One note is if I recall it was running fine one night when it crashed and since then has not been working. One thing to note, surprising me, is that my ATI catalyst minitray icon died the moment I touched it for the first time in months giving me an error I've never seen before and I accidentally clicked while not returning when I try to make the icon return. THe ati____-.exe is still running though

Could it be the driver? I was going to try the 7.5 ones, I'm currently running 6.1. However, I didn't think the newer drivers support folding?

Well. Updateing to 7.5 obviously hasn't helped in that I can no longer run the client. I'm still looking for possible solutions :(

Thanks,

-Kin

On a happy note however: I recently didn't catch that the backing to my front usb port popped out and therefore next time I put my usb peripheral X in the port I jammed it. Took a little to realize what was causing usb overcurrent (stopping my computer from turning on!) even when there was no usb items connected! :) [Overcurrent from the loop created]. HOWEVER, within 4 hours of sending an email to Antec customer support they responded with <<Please reply with adress will we send a replacement right away>> and then I replied, and sent the next day :)

[Replacement of the usb piece! Not case :)]

Hurray! That was one of the best customer support I've ever had. Shocking though, at the least, I expected I'd only get information free and would have to provide my own replacement female usb.

I've heard the ATI catalyst causes a bunch of problems (saw it somewhere on the F@H forums, but don't recall where).
It was causing some issues for me on one of my SMP setups (which has nothing to do with video drivers, but it somehow was still causing problems).

I pulled this from the F@H forums. Not sure how helpful it is since you said the 7.5 doesn't work for you...

The new Catalyst drivers released 2007/05/31, version 7.5 (8.38) appear to work successfully with the GPU client.

The clients will work as expected with the new drivers.

On some single GPU systems you will have to force the card detection by using the -gpu 0 flag.

It is recommended that when you start the GPU client (console or GUI versions) you watch the temperatures and current draws using ATItool or ATI Tray Tools to confirm that processing has actually begun on the GPU itself.

In order to guarantee that the GPU will initialise, the GUI window should be closed when starting the client.

Folding performance appears to have increased over catalyst 7.4 and seems to be similar to that of catalyst 7.2

The following versions of Catalyst are known to work with the GPU client:
6.5
6.10 - 6.11
7.2 - 7.5
The GPU client will work with these drivers with a significant performance hit:
6.6
6.7
The following drivers do not work at all with the GPU client:
6.8
6.9
6.12
7.1

Tested with X1900XT 256 on Windows XP 32bit

No, that's great. Thanks. I guess the problem can't be the drivers then- perhaps. Something else is interrupting the card. (since it *should work on 7.5, had worked on 6.1, and stopped working on 6.1 and 7.5)

And thank you too Gleem for the bump

Did you use Driver Cleaner Pro before installing the new Catalyst drivers? This will help avoid conflicts from previously installed drivers.

Do you have a recent DirectX9c installed? You need to have d3dx9_30.dll in your C:\WINDOWS\system32 folder for the gpu client to work.

Have you run any tests to check for system and video card stability? Download ATITool and scan for artifacts. You may have a defective video card.

Thanks I appreciate your help and I will try all those tomorrow however it is late now I was just heading to sleep after checking mail.

One thing I would like to clarify:

The gpu client had always been working previously. I purchased my system in October/November and shortly after the clients came out had been running for month(s) on and off. It was only in the last month it abruptly has just been giving me the nasty "interrupted"
