FINALLY, I was able to find one of these great OD deals at my local store. Seems like everything I looked for was either not in stock or they had not lowered the price. Thanks.

Keep you eye open at OD. I wondered around yesterday and saw ton or Belkin adapters on clearance, check to see if they have one there, I wasn't really paying attention.

Hm well i just got back from OD:) Seems i wasn't the only person that asked for them, so the sales lady walked me right over to the display. I think i got the last one. Anyhow, the unit seems ok, but i have one really large problem. It requires power from ps2 connector. My %@# laptop doesn't have that, even on the port dock thing. Serial i'm fine with but no power = screwed. Are there any usb to ps2 converters around? Seems like it would work since all it needs is power.

as for cd swapping, can't you just run a virtual cd program so you can keep both disks on your hd? I will be forced to do this since my laptop doesn't have a cdrom:)

Zucchini: I'm going to try an experiment when I get home from work. I picked up one of those Jam Studio Digitizing tablets from that big eToys sale. It's USB, but if I remember correctly, it's actually--yep, serial data w/ PS2 power connected to a USB adapter (both adapters in one :)). I'll try out the adapter with my laptop & GPS when I get home, if it's exactly as I remember and it's not proprietary (sometimes they are, like the usb->ps2 adapter that comes with MS USB mice). If it works, you might want to try and pickup one of those tablets on Ebay or something (I need mine). :)

yea, i have ps2/usb adapters for my mice.. too bad its %@# backwards. I wonder if they sell any gender changers out there.. basically need one of each to reverse it. real usb to ps2 adapters are like 40 bux because they have extra/useless circutry for keyboard/mouse control:(. randmcnally sells a cig lighter to ps2 adapter, but that chains your gps to your car, pretty lame.

Also, they seem to carry a version where you buy just the gps without software, guess for use with ms maps or whatever. Its $79 alone:) So is ms maps that much better then streetfinder?

Also, how does this compare to other gps for laptop.. if that even exists.

It's a no-go with the JamStudio adapter. One of the connections is not a 9-pin serial connector. Must be proprietary to the JamStudio. :(

I should know the answer to this since I am the person who started this thread, but could someone help me out with this question. If the 15 off 50 coupon is a fake, as some people have suggested, how come the OD cash registers don't reject the code?

no idea, who said it was fake?

oh yea werk,

You can install maps to your harddrive from streetfinder deluxe. Just use the import maps feature. also under map options check off extra detail zoom level.

I think I tried that...it gives you a list of cities, correct? I wanted to install the whole US, without having to checkoff all of the cities. :) I think MS Streets and Trips is a better program, and nicer looking too. The only thing I miss is there is no speed indicator on MS S&T, but the RandMcNally SW had it. Oh well, I'll probably swap between the 2. Maybe I'll see if my dad can borrow some of the 3D mapping software his company sells to the Navy :)

EDIT FOR ANOTHER OD MINI-DEAL: Also, I just went to OD again tonight (3 times this week! LOL). Lots of cables and adapters on sale. I picked up a bunch of Molex power Y-adapters for 88 cents each, usually $4. I've seen CompUSA charge $10 for em. :Q

Computer power connectors. The Y splitter lets you power 2 drives from one plug on your power supply.

ah, yea sounded familiar:) Its a shame the thing doesn't have some sort of power indicator. I'll drive around with it tommrow and see if it works:p If it doesn't, then i guess i'll have to shell for that cig lighter/ps2 adapter.

n/m i just unplugged the darn thing and it won't detect meaning it does work. I just have to go outside sometime:)

Okay there were two left at the location I went to so I picked them both up (thought maybe someone here might want the other one). Anyone want the extra one just PM me. I couldn't use the $15 off (one per customer). So the total is $57.11.

BTW how do you get it to work with Streets and Trips, the GPS doesn't appear in there.

Hmm.. so does this GPS require some funky power adapter to connect to your laptop? PS/2 you say? Zucchini did you finally get the GPS up and running?
