I did a quick search and the complaint that seemed to keep popping up is that the maps aren't up to date.

i think tomtom provides map updates every now and then... every major company does. it's also $270 from amazon shipped if your sales tax is high.

I believe the tomtom GPS units have yearly updates at a fairly ridiculous cost for what is simply an update.

For this reason I?ve never bothered to update my tomtom.

get anything garmin seroiusly. I bought a Mio c220 myself for $180 shipped (amazon had it for that much once. Normally btwn $200-250), and it's not for the non-tech person.

I've heard good things about the eTrex, but I've never used one myself. The Geocachers seem to like them for finding their hidden treasures, though.

Can you input a final destination into any of these gps and get step by step directions from start to finish?

that's pretty much what a GPS does

To be fair, I had a very old school Garmin (maybe 6 years ago) that did not offer turn by turn directions. It was a cheapy but offered general directions (destination 10.5 miles northeast with an arrow) but didn't offer street level directions...

I second the TomTom ONE also, best bang for your buck out there, at $250 its an amazing deal. And I also put mine in the glove box when I'm not driving along with the mount and charger too - dont leave anything out.
