edit: also, which is a 'true' 3G technology?

BTW, GPRS is offered primarily by GSM network operators (Cingular, AT&T, T-mobile) and 1xRTT data is a spec of CDMA2000 (Sprint PCS & Verizon.)

GPRS is 2,5G - CDMA, I don't have a clue because we don't use that technology over here
true 3G is a standard called UMTS - networks are operational in Europe (Italy, UK, ...) and probably in some Asian countries.

The highest is got on my GPRS is 144 kbits

maybe you should check with your operator if they plan to introduce UMTS (or another true 3G technology)
