Ya, people either get the achievements, or they don't. Achievements was probably the smartest thing Microsoft has done with the 360. Most gamers are competitive, and achievements is just another leaderboard for them to compare against their friends.

They also make nice goals, if the developer actually puts in worthwhile achievements. I've gotten more play out of games just to get more achievements, just to say that I've gotten them. Hell, I've went back and played games of mine that I haven't picked up in months, something which I NEVER do.

Yes, that's an example of a stupid achievement 🙂. However, achievements have gotten a TON better in the past year as developers are learning to put in not only easily attainable achievements, but intermediate and difficult ones as well. If done right, it gives all users something to shoot for if they so choose. Only the hardcore gamers, though, will sweat over their gamerscore, and will try to net 1000 achievement points in every game.

Achievements have definitely kept me interested in some games much longer than I would have been without them. I thought crackdown had some pretty good achievements, probably some of the best yet.

I like to get achievements but I won't play a game that I don't like just to get them normally..

My little brother is currently obsessed with getting 10,000 kills on Gears of War...

He says he should get it in a few months

He needs to get out more!
