You get one screw-up if it is going to cause an elective procedure. For the next one, you either dont get the procedure, or the taxpayers make sure there is no chance for a third.

Ahhhh, so it's not forced. These people are merely being told 'raise a child for 18 years at the cost of roughly $200,000+ or become sterilized'.

That's much less creepy.

Don't men get told that exact same thing all the time?

"You had sex without birth control, too bad, now pay $200K over the next 18 years."

Actions ---> consequences.

Anymore there isnt such thing as an accidental pregnancy. Sure it happens, but rarely. Who the hell over the age of 10 doesnt know how pregnancy happens?

And BTW Im not happy about this.

Coming from a war-loving wingnut, this doesn't mean much.

Ah...looks like we have a level playing field now ;)

Hell, why not pay for any other elective surgery like breast implants?

Actually, paying for poor women to have abortions will result in a huge net SAVINGS of money. This is because when people have children they cannot afford, the government has to spend gobs of money on education for those children, health care for those children, child welfare services, and potentially criminal justice costs in the future.

So, if your concern is about saving government funds, you should not only support abortion coverage but also encouragement to poor women to have abortions.

Regardless of all the hoopla about fetus/religion/boobjobs, this comes down to what makes most sense for the tax payer.

Abortion is the cheapest answer. Boom.

You are forgetting option #3: Pay for an abortion yourself.

and you are forgetting option #4: do it yourself.

Exactly. The only people against this are trying to push their "moral" views on others.

Abortions are ALWAYS cheaper than kids for the system.

i like how an honest ethical conundrum ends up in quotes as if abortion is at the level of passing a kidney stone.

I would rank this as the very least of my concerns when it comes to government-run healthcare.

Is it that hard to keep your nose out of other peoples business?

If the government provides it (and we know that it is cheaper to not have a kid than to have a kid) it is a good financial move as well.

So you'd prefer paying for 18 years of welfare baby payments instead?

You're so smart.

Why not just force them to pay out of pocket for the 2nd / subsequent times ? i.e. pay the doctor for the procedure, then sic your collections people on the "mother" / garnish her wages / etc... .

"your tax dollars" is dumb it's not yours once the government has it. Find a different wedge issue to complain about.

I don't understand why you love welfare so much. Were you a welfare baby yourself?

No. You're already on the hook for welfare kids / kids "in the system".

I suppose that's true yes. Once I forcibly take your money from you, I didn't actually forcibly take it. It's mine.

Have you read nobodyknows posts lately? There's actually been quite a bit of discussion around his misuse of "your". Your input, however, is mysteriously absent.

A couple of points for those who are honest in their desire to wade through the disinformation and come up with a national health policy that will put us onto a sustainable path to consider:

[*]The available notes from deceased Supreme Court justices reveal that the Roe v. Wade decision turned on the belief that the government should not insert itself in the patient doctor relationship.

[*] Health experts (practitioners and economists) estimate that approximately 30% of the care being delivered in the US today has no (or negative) effect on healthy outcomes. IOW, 30% of the billions being spent by individuals, insurance companies, and the federal government are not medically necessary and represent waste in the system. Fruthermore, experience indicates that the rate of ineffective treatment rises as individual doctors become more financiallty vested in equipment and clincs.

The notion that any and all third-party remimbursements should be contingent on only doctor's recommendation has become a cornerstone of health care reform opposition. Can that postion be resoved with the with the above facts?

Had you a brain you might have noted that my shot at you was of equivalent stupidity to your shat at Obama. I had hoped that in seeing how stupid my remark was that you would see how stupid yours were, but of course, being a bear of apparently little brain, you attacked the reflection of your own stupidity. Well congratulations on that, I guess.

   :D Yeehaw! :D Dead babies! :D

:music: This is GREAT news. We just don't have enough abortions and they are not affordable. The more babies that are aborted the better. Hell, we should make at least one abortion mandatory for every woman. :music:

:music: Abortion really is what makes this country great. Without it, well.. we'd be knuckledraggers. There's nothing that says civility like the god given right to have your baby sucked out limb by limb just because its inconvenient. :music:

:music: There should be a national abortion day to celebrate how great they are. Women could get pregnant just to have an abortion on that day.. it would be great fun for all and would really help the economy! :music:
