There is not even a compelling reason to build the memorial at the exact spot anyway.

Shhh, they need to build the memorial on top of the crash site because that's where the hidden base was that shot down the plane in the first place, and also where they hid the bodies of the flight that never hit the pentagon because it was a missile.

LOL :)

Yeah I don't see why they just don't buy ~10 surrounding acres + land for road access.

Primarily because the surrounding 500+ acres will become a retarded mix of tourist traps selling 911 trinkets 'Made in China'.

So not only are they going to pay a reduced cost for the land they are condemning but are also spending $58 million dollars for this "park". :(

Who claims they are paying a reduced cost other than you and the other *O F F E N D E D* ??

Lambert's property has a tax value of $14,460.

SVONAVEC INC has a designated landuse of 'MM1' which from what I can gather implies the 'highest and best use' would be a coal strip mine. Yup. we need more of those, don't we ??

Also the Gov only talked with the 2 largest land owners. The smaller ones were locked out.

Now that is the part that pissed me off the most about this.

The proceedings will require a certified MAI real estate appraisal on each parcel of land. There is no such thing as 'locking out' land owners from the process. So it would be safe to say this is simply Bull Sheet.

This and property taxes show that we cannot truly own land.

Feel free to seek repeal of the 5th Amendment of the US Constitution.

And I have no idea why you are going off on property taxes. If you have any better ideas for funding local schools, police, fire, sanitation, courts, etc. we'd all love to hear 'em.

This is total bs but unfortunately we will bitch and moan for a few minutes here and not bother calling or writing our elected reps over this. Tough luck to the former land owners of a memorial I will never visit!

Who cares what it is zoned for. They are the property owners and if they want $1B/acre it is their right to ask that.

I guess the "change" we are getting is now "all your property are belong to us". No better way to celebrate freedom and courage by backdooring and harassing people out of their land.

I'm not certain this is being done under eminent domain. I think it's being done under the auspices of a ruling by the Supreme Court in 2005.

Here's the first hit.

http://www.washingtonpost.com/...3/AR2005062300783.html

IIRC, a lot of people were upset with this ruling, some even going to the extent of trying to get Justice Souter's home in Vermont (?) classified for a higher and better use.

You do understand that the Kelo case was all about the use of eminent domain, right?

Ah, I see my assessment is incorrect. Sorry for not knowing all the particulars.

As I noted to Schadenfroh feel free to seek repeal of the 5th Amendment of the Constitution. Your sentiments actually represent the antithesis of the USA and that exhibited by the heros of Flight 93 by sitting on your arse and whining and complaining from behind your keyboard. Get out of your seat and do something if you feel so much O-U-T-R-A-G-E.

Your characterization of "...backdooring and harassing people out of their land..." is BS. The Flight 93 National Memorial Act was signed on September 24, 2002. The initial boundaries were set in 2003 and argued about for over 3 years ... and three years later people are still arguing.

And for all the other outraged brainiacs: The families of those who died acquired more than half of the land and the plane crash debris field itself including human remains were spread over more than 10 acres.

Oh, yeah - let's go ahead and build multiple trinket shops, a hotel and a Walmart next to the 'human remains' debris field. Sheesh. Some of you guys wouldn't know HONOR if it continuously stuck its foot in your ass ...

Hmmmmmm, you know they dipped into social security to build the Vietnam war memorial I wonder where they are getting the money to build this one? Oh well, every time when your at the air port and the they tell everyone to take a moment to bow your head and think about 9/11 all I can think about is bad we got fucked by taking all our rights away. I honestly think when they do this at all the airports the only ones that are grateful are the TSA phreaks that they have a job because of all the BS.

Oh well, Just more rights being trampled on. I wish there was something or someone I could blame this on besides Bush.

Are you serious? Have you actually experienced that? If so, that's seriously messed up. It's like something out of an Orwell novel.

Not sure why nobody is bringing this up.. (Sure I am) and I don't want to turn this into a blame Obama thread (Sure I do).. But Obama could end this in 30 seconds with a simple press conference saying its not going to happen.

Obviously we know where he stands on personal property.. tax the hell out of it and take it from you.

Where are all the people who accused Bush or eroding the constitution? I think this is doing the same thing.

what bullshit.

this does the opposite of what it is intended to do.....from now on when I think of flight 93, I will associate the douchebag thieves that came up with this dumbass plan with those that perished.

If the families truly wanted their loved ones to be honored they would speak out against this travesty not have their memories tarnished in such a way.

Except they've been negotiating for the land since 2003 and Obama has been President since... 2008. You can't blame this on him, but you certainly tried.

How does it feel to be part of an ever-diminishing minority of angry/outraged white men (especially those who make 16 grammatical errors in a 50-word paragraph) ?

Please feel free to raise the money for an 'Anti-Flight 93 Monument' next to the park for you and your legions of outraged/aggrieved citizens. How big is a legion, anyway (and do they all post at P&N) ?

Please reveal your name on the Anti-Flight 93 Monument as in 120 years our descendants will mock you without pity for your pea-brained sentiments in opposition to a memorial national park which honors the greatest act of selflessness and bravery in the history of our republic.

I think most people don't care if they want or get a memorial? It's the idea that they need so much land for one and that they're willing to forcibly take it from people that don't want to sell.

lol greatest act of selfessness and bravery? hardly. even if it was IT does not justify stealing property from people.
