Well, last night I tried marijuana for the first time and hated it. I tried it to see if my suspicion was correct (about not liking it), and now that I have I want to forget it ever happened.

My question is I heard if you have even done marijuana once, you cannot get a government job, is that true?

Let me also clarify that I also was wondering about when you get security clearances for classified information.

most people have to smoke up a few times before they understand the buddah, give it some more tries.

Completely untrue. My wife interviewed with the State Department a while back and one of the things they asked her was "have you done drugs". She said "I smoked some pot in college but nothing since then" (this is the truth). They said "Okay" and ended up offering her a job so I guess they weren't too worried about it.

I've worked for the CDC for going on five years now and I've never even been drug tested.

I would think that the feds wouldn't throw that big of a fit if it was a trial thing. I have a friend who applied for a position in the local state police and when going through the polygraph portion the question was raised about marijuana use and my friend answered "yes" he did try it once. Afterward he was talking to the gentleman that was administering the test and mentioned that he figured he wouldn't get the job because he had admitted to this. The guy then told him that there would be more of a problem had he answered no. What they are looking for is truthfulness. Most people have tried it at one point or another (though I have not) and they expect it. I think they want to see if you would own up to it responsibly.

No, not true.

And congratulations on making the decision for yourself rather than having propaganda like DARE do it for you.

Not true. I'm in the process of getting my TS (top secret) clearance and there isn't a drug test. When I was filling out the paperwork, it did ask if I used drugs in the past. I had a friend who did drugs in the past and was getting his TS and he put that he did use them before. All they did was delay his TS a little bit and question him about it. He told them he used it in the past and that was it. He got his TS, he wasn't denied.

It binds with the DNA in your hair follicles.

Get a haircut.

Jesus, there's a lot of misinformation here.

Hairtesting is rarely, if ever done. The most common testing method is URINE. THC (the tested chemical within marijuana) is fat soluble (sp?). For this reason it is stored in your fat cells. This means that you will test positive for as long as you have the same fat within your system. We metabolize all of our fat in around a month or so, but it depends on the amount of body fat on a person. A skinny dude will take around two weeks to be clean.

As for your security clearance, just say you tried it and didn't like it. I'm sure they get that all the time. Hey Clinton even said that.

I'll hit on everything.

1) USING MARIJUANNA ONCE WILL DO NOTHING. It takes the 2nd or 3rd use for there to be an effect. And trust me, you'll know it when you feal it. Your suspicion resulted in a possibly false conclusion. You need to feal the effects before forming a conclusion after all.

2) If that's all you did, you probably won't test positive. Drink as much water as you can to purge your system prior to a drug test though. For the prior 48 hours. Rumor has it that Golden Seal Root Herb from GNC helps. I think that's a myth though.

3) Once you pass your test, you will never be tested again unless you provide them a reason to suspect something. Atleast that's how it works where I work. Getting security clearences does not require a drug test. All security clearences do is try to make sure you are not likely to give away secrets. Drug use does not imply that you give away secrets. It will be asked on a form, but you will never (from my experience) get tested/retested.

Oh, and to put this issue to bed...

...I'm with the NSA, and I'm hight right now. I smoke probably 2-3 times a weed. Unccle same dont care, as long as I'm not high while i'm on assignment...

...I'm gonna go get some:cookie:'s...

Cannabinoids can be detected in the urine for as many as 21 days after use in persons chronically using marijuana because these lipid soluble metabolites are slowly released from fat cells into the blood; however, 1-5 days is the normal urine-positive period.
