Hold on here, have we even demonstrated it was doctor incompetence? All we have is a situation where it might have been. Just because complications later developed in what should have been a relatively routine operation.
Maybe it might have been a case where a scalpel nicked the intestine and went unnoticed. Or the doctor might have sewed onto a relatively weak part of the intestine and it just later failed. And even if the doctor had not done the operation, that weak part of the intestine would have failed equally fast.
So I submit we need that final autopsy before we rush to judgment. We can expect doctors to be competent, but we cannot expect them to be clairvoyant.
